He was never going to be worth a new contract with the money he was previously on and he was never going to stay with the state we were in. At least we went for Marriott instead though! At least we went for Marriott instead though! Agreed, this is why Fletcher has never bagged much more than a dozen in a season. Very good player but constantly picks up injuries and at around £40k a week, as much as we miss a player of his quality, no way was he worth a new deal on that type of money. Not sure where the information came from but someone on here said Stoke offered him £5K a week more than Celtic, it was still a significant reduction on what he previously had with us. We were right not to offer him that kind of money but we effectively knew by June and probably earlier that Fletcher, Forestieri, Winnall and Nuhiu were all leaving.
