He’s exactly the type I want us to avoid. Forest & Villa have had his best years.

I don’t want us to repeat the mistakes Irvine made last time we dropped, signing washed-up has-beens like Teale, Sedgwick, and Morrison. Steer well clear of Lansbury. Let someone else provide a home for him.

Absolutely spot on.

Signing 30 year old Championship players on the decline in their career is the sort of recruitment policy we need to move away from. Especially in L1.

Bristol City have had a huge clear out;

Released
Hakeeb Adelakun
Nathan Baker
Famara Diédhiou
Rene Gilmartin
Jack Hunt
Henri Lansbury
Adrian Mariappa
Jamie Paterson
Tommy Rowe
Liam Walsh
Marley Watkins

Walsh would be a cracking signing, was one of the stand out players when Coventry got promoted from League One.

I'd take every single one apart from Gilmartin.

I don’t know, a midfield pairing of Lansbury and Bannan would be very strong. Backed up by FDB and a couple of other squad CM’s I’d be more than happy with that.

He’s washed up. Ageing. Hardly plays. Will come here to revive his career rather than being on the up and having ambitions to play for Wednesday.

Not good enough for me.

Even Lansbury?

A once hot prospect who turned into a bit of a poser and completely lost his way, earning decent money along the way.

When was the last time he had a good season? Why are we the likely to be the ones to get the best out of him? Recent track records suggests this would be another costly mistake.

It would just show that the club are obsessed with players living off reputation. It screams Izzy Brown, Elias Kachunga etc. Past it players who we’re hoping can revive their careers.

9/10 these signings don’t do that. They come here pick up decent money at a fairly big club and offer very little on the pitch.

Recruitment this season has to be exactly what Megson did when we got promoted. League One players, who are ambitious and see Sheffield Wednesday as a big stepping stone in their career. Want them to feel pride in the shirt.

The likes of Llera, O’Grady, Semedo, Reda, Lines etc. Wednesday was the biggest club they played for. They cared about the badge.

No more big earners looking for a final pay day who’s best days are behind them.

Lansbury’s last 4 seasons.

20/21 - 4 appearances

19/20 - 10 appearances

18/19 - 3 appearances

17/18 - 10 appearances

27 appearances in 4 years.

🤦‍♂️

I can see why he's on our radar now!

Diedhou is that absolute unit of a centre forward isn’t he? We’re probably not in with a chance, but he’s the kind of striker we should’ve signed last summer

He’ll be off to Boro with Colin.

Absolutely NOT. It was squad that got Dave Jones sacked as not a single player was signed with next season in mind. We got promoted with little quality in our squad and survived only by miracle.

We need to rebuild like Chris Turner did by bringing in mixture of young players with potential and experienced players who know League One inside out.

Agree

Turner bought some terrible players but he also got it right on occasion Whelan Brunt and McGovern were exactly what we need this time round Players looking to make a name for themselves

Anyone who thinks we will sign 11, 19 year olds, will be disappointed

That would be a terrible idea anyway

Not 11, but 2 or 3 and only if right ones are available as there is no point in signing them for the sake of it.

Under FFP we need to generate income in order to spend and we wont generate it by signing players like Lansbury or Hunt. Although experience is needed to help youngsters learn and play as well as they can and ultimately get results that we want.

Disagree. Primary objective is to get out the League as soon as possible.

And that can be done with a mixture of young players and experienced heads. The year Sturrock got us up we only survived the next season by the skin of our teeth. Burton and Tudgay saved us from dropping straight back down and they were hardly 19 year old lads.

A reminder that only Whelan and Brunt went on to better things. McGovern flopped at the level above. The rest of the players Turner signed were pretty experienced heads like Peacock, Bullen, Branston etc

You don’t have to be a 19 year old to be ambitious.

True

Mcgovern never got over his injury though

But your right you don’t have to be young to be ambitious. We can all dream
