If Palace couldn’t afford Cahills wages I very much doubt we could. This is one of them stories that starts in the pub as an idea, and 3 pints later he’s signed.

Don’t think he will seriously expect to pull those sort of wages again. But he might fancy the chance to step up to coaching at a boyhood club? Think it’s doubtful but stranger things have happened ( Rooney at derby for example)

Last time we escaped from this pit we had a guy called lee peacock playing. Did all the dirty work while McLean grabbed the glory. Sometimes you just need that kind of player about?

Lee Gregory is not a target man. He is not a prolific enough poacher either. All his success at Millwall came with playing alongside Steve Morrison. We will be playing one up front, all our forward signings have to be able to play as a lone striker and with their back to goal.

We had Madine, O’Grady and Lowe.

Yes, of course. I meant the time before. When we had a good blend of young and experienced players. But it emphasises the point that you maybe a shithouse or two in this league.

For Moores system, it looks like we'll pretty much have 3 players who can play each position thanks to some versatile squad members.

GK - BPF, Wildsmith

RB - Hunt, Palmer, Iorfa, Paterson

CB - Iorfa, Hutchinson, Dunkley, Brennan, Palmer

LB - Brown, Galvin, Palmer, Johnson

CDM - Luongo, Andeniran, Hutchinson

CM - Bannan, Buyers, Hunt, Bashiru

CAM - Wing, Windasss, Bashiru, Paterson

RW - Corbeanu, Windass, Green

ST - Kamberi, Windass, Paterson, Green

LW - Shodipo, Green, Windass, Johnson

Comparing that to last season when we had 1 fullback in the squad. We had and still have the same versatile players that can fill in but now we have a specialist in their natural position ahead of them. So much more balance. Let's hope all the promise of these transfers turns out as positive as we'd all hope.

I don't think the striker we are after will be any of the strikers some are speculating about.

The wolves lad came out the blue as did a few other signings.

I suspect the striker we sign will be a good one and will be a surprise to most. We will start the season with Patterson and Kamberi for now. We may wait right till deadline to ensure we get the best striker possible.

Realistically with Johnson signing for more cover down the left, we only need 2 now. CB and Striker.

We must be hitting the point where we will need to move players out before we can bring anyone else in.

We are only allowed a squad of 22 senior players after all...

Ive got a feeling that we may try and get Green and El Pato out of the door. I think Green will be out of the equation and Pato won’t get a place in our side and he’s an expensive sub. Alex Hunt will also leave on loan.

If we manage to bring in another striker I just don't see where Patterson fits in.

If we are sticking with the 4-3-3 we have been playing in pre-season, there isn't a place for him.  When Windass is back he can play either up front or challenge Wing for that attacking midfield position, but Patterson is going to be third or fourth choice for any position he can play.

If we can move him on we probably should; he must be on fair wages.
