The GuruJuan Transfer Megathread 2021 (and beyond)

We can't judge the Hunt signing until the end of the window, once we've got the full slate of ingoings and outgoings and can work out whether we've spent our money in the right places, got any positions of weakness left outstanding.

Until then it's not worth getting half as angrymad as certain folks on here are doing.

Sorry mate, but both of those things cannot be true at the same time.

You cannot say that signing hunt won't impact the wage budget and then say signing him won't impact our search for a striker.

If his wages come out of the budget, it impacts the search for other players, which moore has specifically said he wants to sign....strikers.

I guess a better question would be whether we needed to sign a right back. Interestingly moore hasn't said much on this signing. wonder why that is.

We'll have set aside different budgets for each position we want to fill, regardless of the fact that we're operating under EFL restrictions which may well limit the amount we're allowed to offer each player in the first place.

We know Moore is looking for a forward or two, and I'd be amazed if none are signed by the end of the transfer window, completely irrespective of the fact we've signed Hunt.

Based on? I’m not disagreeing with you, just wondering if you’d heard anything.

I hope not, idea of a back three with Iorfa and Dunkley is reminiscent of land of giants!

If Sally's mentioned it could happen, then that's good enough for me!

Just pass on what my pal who is fairly close to the club tells me. He gets some wrong and he gets some right. But he doesn’t make stuff up for fun.

No harm in passing it on.

Can you name a transfer window under DC other than the first window when he left recruitment to Glen Roeder to signing the players where we have got things right. The last 6 or 7 windows have been an absolute car crash.

This window we needed a left back with league experience, a right winger with league one experience, 2 strikers and a decent standard keeper. Then replace anyone that leaves such as Borner, Paterson etc.

So far we have signed a right winger with league one experience, 1 out of the 5 signing we needed and the season starts in 7 days and the league starts in 13 days. This transfer window is starting to look like the same car crash as the others.

We could go into the season with no strikers with league experience at the whole club, 2 goal keepers that concede soft goals every game meaning we need to at least to score every game to get anything from it. Last season with these same players we failed to score on 18 occasions we took just 4 points from a possible 54. This is the reason we need a striker.

We needed a lot more than five signings, after the majority of our senior squad left.

But the ones that left barely played other than Reach and Harris. Lees we have cover in Iorfa returning so no I disagree.

We need to get of alot of crap such as JVA, Odabajo, Kachunga, Pelupessy and Westwood was never fit so has barely player since Monk arrived the season before.

In League one a squad of 20 should be more than enough with kids to call on if needed.

Nobody can supply a source.

About 6 or 7 pages back someone mentioned him, in 5 or 6 pages time it will be from an accurate source is the Owlstalk way.

So if you say we are looking at (insert name) in 10 pages it will be true.😁😁😁😁

With his past record anyone who thought DC would deliver going into this season has been deluded. Releases a statement banging on about ambition yet he's overseen mostly disaster upon disaster when it comes to running a football club. I think we have a decent enough manager for this league but this is just about all we do have. There's no chance of us doing anything this coming season as overall goals are not in this squad. If we stay up it would be an achievement let alone going up. DC will pretend to lead from afar as usual. Can't imagine him facing the fans too often in the ground. From afar giving no direction. As if he was going to bring 'brains' in to help run the club. His ego doesn't allow a shift of power. It's all his way or the highway.

39 players made at least one appearance for Chesterfield in the National League last season, with 27 of them playing at least 10 times. The days of teams relying on 20 senior players have been confined to the past, even in the lower divisions.

I do agree but when you cannot afford it you work with what you have.

we started preseason with 12 senior pros we need 2 keepers, 4 centre backs 3 wing backs/full backs, 3 wingers, 4 central midfielders, 4 striker/ forward options. A squad of 20 players.

If we get injuries youth players will be brought in, the same for JP Trophy and Cup games.

Normally under DC the cup games are not wanted, but with no money progression in the FA Cup and the return of replays could bring in good money for a club with none. We could find ourselves on tv in rounds 1 and 2 and a premiership tie or two if we progress. prize money to get to round 4 would be about £200k or a league one players salary for the season not including ticket money and tv appearance money.

In 90% of games at least 3 forwards will be used in most formations. So that leaves only 1 spare option before you even start. All it would take is a single injury and the cupboard would already be empty in that position. And of course our main scoring threat is currently sidelined for a while.

Obviously, financial circumstances and potential league sanctions may have an impact, and that's a different matter. You certainly wouldn't choose to have such a small squad if that could be avoided. It's just not sustainable these days. I wouldn't mind betting that the last time we only used 20 senior players in a season would go back to the 1990s at the very least.

I thought the league rules were only 21 players for the 2021/22 season to be reduced to 20 by the following season? Players under 20 are exempt from the total.
