I’m with you Dalmonbones

I was looking into our keepers over the years and I had to have a double take.

I have a memory lapse, I just cannot remember this guy but I absolutely must have seen him play because to be quite honest, I had a season ticket that season.

Have I blocked this memory out for a reason?

It can't have been THAT bad surely during this period?

I’m with you mate. I don’t remember him either. Mandella Effect?

Think he played mainly in the cup games. You might not have seen him if you didn’t claim your seat for them. Think I saw him once.

He was terrible for us. I was amazed that Arsenal kept him on. Even more amazed that he's become one of the best keepers in the PL

Terrible? He was pretty average and made some mistakes but never conceded more than 2 in a game.

He was 21 at the time and it was his first proper spell at senior level for anyone, he did OK. Not sure how you can be so amazed at where he is at now based on that spell alone, he has developed well. There aren't that many goalkeepers who stand out as destined for the top in their first dozen or so professional games.

This. I’m surprised people don’t remember him, he was garbage. Looked poor on other loan spells too.

He did have good raw elements and keepers do tend to develop and come into their prime later in their careers.

Now looks a quality all round keeper. Shocked Arsenal kept him so long. Obviously worked very hard and good luck to him.

Guest wilyfox

Gray brought him in from the Arse. I remember Prutton said he was a perpetual handshaker. Would walk in the dressing room and shake everyone’s hand all the time.

Why do we seem surprised young players can develop into top talent.

We haven't invested into the future as much as we should have past few years.

Got a clear memory of Danny Ward walking past Westwood, when it was penalty shoot outs versus Huddersfield. Ward towered over Westwood. He went on to sign for Leicester for over 10m I think, can't get a kick because of Kasper.

He didn't do ok mate. Nobody wanted him back. Nobody thought he would become a top keeper and at the end of the day not becoming a first team keeper until he was 27 shows how unusual his progression has been.

Kids pushing for the Argentina No 1 jersey.

Maybe a good reason not to write Wildsmith or Dawson off to early.

I'll be amazed if either Wildsmith or Dawson end up in the Argentina squad to be fair...

Not entirely accurate.

As I said, I didn't expect anyone to identify him as being a top keeper based on his first dozen professional appearances at Championship level but to label him a terrible on that basis and write him off at that point is somewhat short sighted.

You said 'nobody' mate, simply proving that wasn't the case.

Well obviously you can find a positive about anyone on here. I remember somebody claiming Ben Sahar was so underwhelming because he was literally too good for Wednesday and his movements were simply too advanced for our players.

I quickly found 4 threads mate in which the opinions were divided. Not the same thing.
