He's always had bags of potential and had plenty of time and opportunity to fulfill it, it just never happened. Sometimes players need to move to improve. It's just one of those things. Obvs hope we have a sell on clause. Bing Crosby has gone fishing, nothing like introducing mysticism into the debate !

However we're not a well run club so I doubt we included a sell on clause. We probably have a reverse clause where we have to put some money in the pot if he is sold.
Yellowbelly
Our recruitment team should take a look back at some of the overseas players we signed during those first couple of seasons under Carlos. Joao, Matias, Venancio and Sasso would walk into this team and they cost us peanuts.
83owl
The people crying about him leaving are also the same people saying we should re sign hutch and lee instead of playing shaw.

The new rules post-Brexit would mean we wouldn't be able to sign Sasso, as he hadn't played enough minutes to qualify for enough points to be allowed to sign here. https://www.thefa.com/-/media/thefacom-new/files/rules-and-regulations/2020-21/gbe-criteria/gbe-mens-players-criteria-jan-2021.ashx

Or anyone even near his quality. And that’s not good enough in my opinion. A well run club would have sold a player like Joao and reinvested the money into someone with similar potential. See Brentford selling Watkins and replacing with Toney. Might sound like a broken record moaning at the club, but it’s just another example of the poor club management over recent seasons. That goes for ALL the players that have left, Loovens,Sasso,Hunt,Wallace,FF,Hooper,Joao, we havent replaced a single one with similar quality. We didn't replace him because we didn't ave any money to do so. The sale was a last gasp panic to try and claw back some of our overspending when the horse had already bolted. We had to sell at that time and he was our only saleable asset. The mistakes came much earlier when we had the chance to sell others for more and balance the books but we never did and continued to bring in players on high wages with no sell on value. gurujuan
Until we stop clamouring for a big target man, and insisting on peppering the box with high crosses, we will never get the best out of a player like Joao. If we want to develop players that the big clubs will covet, we need to get them playing some football.

Spookone
Was always obvious he had real talent and I always rated him very highly but the sad truth is he wouldn’t have developed if he had stayed at Hillsborough.
