Pieman
I genuinely do not believe that the Harris incident was a penalty. He was two yards from Oddjob, his arms were in their natural position and it was ‘ball to hand’. I don’t think I am viewing it through rose tinted glasses either. While I might have shouted for it, the other way round, I do not believe that was a penalty and wouldn’t have expected it to be given to us.... However, if we were in the Prem and VAR were involved, would that have been given as a pen? There is no question it hit his arm, under today’s rules, does that therefore make it a pen?

agentwalker
no pen under VAR for me, but if there was VAR they'd have given it purely because its wednesday. 1

Definately not a penalty. However with the overuse and justifcation for VAR, it would have been given. Soft, but given.
WhiteOwl91
Still reckon var would have now viewed that as a natural position, since they changed the interpretation weeks back

Totally agree, they'd have given a pen to Man Utd or Liverpool.

darra
If there had been VAR Kadim would've walked for the challenge on Reach. If Reach hadn't got up so quick it probably would've been.
Whitechapel Owl
Agree, not a penalty for me, the super strict handball stuff with VAR isn't used in this division so it's irrelevant really. The natural position thing does my head in, do they expect footballers to run around like pencils? You use your arms for balance so they natural move when you're playing sport. 2
TrickyTrev
It wasn’t as blatant as that handball by Keogh on the line at Pride Park the other season. It’s not very nice when the boots on the other foot Derby fans. 7
Guest Bulgaria
VAR would have given that a penalty. No doubt.

If it stays as just the Prem using VAR I think we will be spared that privilege for a long time
wakefieldowl
How fantastic to watch a match with no var nonsense. When we scored, you knew it was a goal. None of this waiting for it to be reviewed and only knowing its a goal when theyve actually kicked off. 2

All this natural position stuff is utter tripe. Anyone who has played the game knows you have to get your arms out for balance. Not out like the Angel Of The North, but you need to balance yourself. It's unnatural not to. Edited January 1, 2021 by ChapSmurf Typo 2
JOCOWl
Nailed on pen if VAR was involved. Keith Andrews will be gutted, spoilt his night. He thought they should have had 2 pens for it.....why does he hate us?
CircleSeven
I thought the rules now meant it would be a pen, but a bit like the COVID rules I can’t keep up with the changes! It wasn’t given and watching Rooney rant about it was priceless! as to whether it should or shouldn’t have been one. I guess I’d like to know from an ‘academic’ perspective but don’t care that much.
Kopparberg
It just made me think that this wouldn’t be a Wednesday win unless there was reason to count ourselves lucky somehow
Jack of Clubs
Didn’t they change the handball rule earlier in the season for VAR anyway as there were some daft decisions being given out?
Bing Cosby
Wasn't a pen, but it would have been given with VAR, cos VAR is a crockofshit
S72 Owl
Start of season it would have been a penalty with VAR. Not now though they slightly changed the rules.
