It’s not a bad position for Pulis.

These players have to earn a new contract and/or make themselves attractive to suitor clubs.

Though from what we’ve seen over his first three games he gets brilliant effort from players anyway.

It's easy to say "good, chance to rebuild" but as we saw at the end of last season, players who have nothing to play for, don't tend to play too well.  If the club make it clear they won't be resigning then basically the majority of ANY first XI we put out will know they are down the road.  Real incentive to keep us up!

This 100%

That's what is worrying me.

Not so much now but let's say we move into the last 5 games and we are desperate for points. Will a player who is leaving really risk all by winning 50/50s. Will they really care that much? It's human nature to subconsciously look to the future and self preservation.

I don't like having such a high percentage of our first team all out of contract.

At this rate, the club will have to call on fans to play.

Depending we're still in the Championship I would keep Lees, Penney, Urhoghide and Shaw also maybe Render and Hughes and loan them out. If we don't resign any, it leaves us with the players you mentioned plus FDB and maybe Windass, Paterson, Hunt, Grant, Waldock, Adedoyin and Hagan? So 8 players, including 2 GK's and maybe up to 15 players. The season after we will only have Dawson and FDB under contract and maybe Windass, Paterson, Hunt, Grant, Waldock, Adedoyin and Hagan? So 2 players, including 1 GK and maybe up to 9 players.

Why us?:duntmatter:

I was saying this in the last transfer window either resign Lees, Bannan and Reach to new deals or get rid, instead we did the tried and tested failure that we have seen under DC for the last 5 years, let then all leave for free after another season of excessive wages for doing next to nothing on the pitch.

Penney, Urhoghide, Brennan, Shaw, Hunt are meant to be the future of the club yet we are so short sighted and we offer then one year deals then give out 2-4 year deals for players clearly over the hill, past it and too expensive.

Westwood and Rhodes will barely play this season but between them that will be another £3m wasted in salaries.

I don't think DC could run a bath let alone a football club.

Spot On: No forward planning, even if a player isnt in your plans you can extend the contract to make them a more valuable asset to sell. We really are pathetic.

Anyway:

Reach - New Deal (cant let 5million walk for free)

Westwood - Leave

Rhodes - Leave

Bannan - New Deal

Lees - Leave

Harris - Leave

Odubajo - New Deal

Pelupessey - Leave

Van Aken - Leave

Penney - New Deal

Uroghide - New Deal (loan out asap)

Brennan - New Deal (loan out asap)

Shaw -  New Deal

Render - New Deal (loan out)

Ben Hughes - New Deal (loan out asap)

Kachunga - Leave

Leaving us

Borner - Keep

Palmer - Sell

Luongo - Keep

Iorfa - Keep

Dunkly - No idea

Wildsmith - Keep

Dawson - Sell

Windass - Unsure

Paterson - Unsure

Not sure its as cut and dry as that, it depends on the player's personality and also the manager's motivational abilities.

Fox and Fletcher for example, would have known in plenty of time before last season ended, even if only informally, that the deals they were going to get offered weren't going to be acceptable to them and they would be leaving.  They were playing for contracts elsewhere for most of last season in order to remain at Championship level.

Most of the others who didn't put the yards in either ended up having to go abroad, drop down divisions, or were on natural declines due to age and injury anyway.  That should be a very recent warning sign to any players with deals coming to an end here.

There is a good amount of people on that list who will need to put in a decent effort this season to secure contracts at this level next year, and its a different context now what with clubs cutting back to Covid.  The ones who phone it in will already have been weeded out by Pulis anyway, and I suspect he has the man management skills to coax the rest into playing to earn a new deal here or elsewhere.  I think last year's issue was more the previous manager being unable to do that.

More to the point, we need to make sure we can get better players in before a lot of those decisions are made With every clear out, we seem to slip further down the table
