I liked FF as a footballer - a really good forward player could get most Championship teams 12-15 goals a season if played correctly and, like his first two seasons, played with decent players. I wouldn't mind if we had replaced him with blood and thunder merchants because of our financial pending doom, as at least we could say it is worth the re-build pain. Problem is we didn't and have a sort of hybrid player - not slow but not quick, not good but not bad - just steady plodders across all positions. The forward line recruitment highlights this - TP has singled out Paterson as our only hope - a player who started his career as a full back and seems more comfortable in midfield. I'll always remember FF's performance against Brentford at home around 2016 when he was sub - we were 0-2 down, and he came on for the last 20mins - absolutely ran the game, scored and should have scored again - he was amazing that night and although we lost 1-2, I went away from the game actually enthused about the future simply because of his 20min cameo. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

He should have walked into our side for the last 3 seasons but he didn't - that was down to him and even his team mates had turned on him for his lack of application. He had the odd bit of eccentric moment that we've not seen since the two italians - although not a patch on the great Waddle. Then he let it all get to him, his ego outgrew the club.
