The two massive loan deals , as you put it, hardly started 3-4 league games between them. Hardly strengthening the squad. And what about all those players you claimed to be first teamers despite being shipped out by Bielsa and hardly playing under him? Had the funds available to him to sign Nketiah and Augustin. More than a lot of clubs at this level. We splashed a lot of money on Rhodes and Winnall, and they hardly or have hardly played for us.

Yeah, and we’re still in the bleeding Championship.

mattitheowl
They had the 7th highest budget in the league, it's as simple as that. You don't need to adjust for inflation, you just need to compare like for like. Ultimately Bielsa has taken a perennial nearly team from upper mid table to winning the league and promotion to the Premier League. It's no slight on Wilder or Coppel or anyone else that they weren't nominated for this award. It's like looking at the Oscars and saying one film shouldn't be nominated this year because there was a better one that wasn't last year. Evidently there haven't been that many outstanding coaching achievements this year (no international tournaments etc.). It is what it is. Bielsa has done a fantastic job there, of that I don't think there is any question. He's been nominated for this award clearly by someone in the know (group of piers?) so they obviously think what he's done is worthy. What nobody seems to be pointing out is that he's on a list of nominees who've all basically just done what's expected of them. The only real stand out for me is Flick with what he did at Bayern in the UCL. And even then you could argue they should have been right in the mix! Just not bothered... It's like the Oscars yes, a complete lack of diversity, where are the best Asian and African managers?

It's an award for "The Best". Christ, Bielsa being nominated has caused a stir. Can you imagine if the bloke who won the Algerian second division was nominated! Just not bothered...
