Dawson has averaged conceding 2 goals a game for the last 12 months and when we restarted for the last 9 games Wildsmith was completely useless. Give Westwood the next 4 or 5 games and you will see a better organised back line for one, a keeper with better distribution than both the other kids and he will get better and better. Play him for a full season and he will get the team more points than the two kids put together or based on our useless midfield and forward line probably more points than them. You cannot judge a player on 1 game in nearly a year. How many other players in that last game have been gash for most of the season, Lees, Bannan, Harris, JVA, Reach. All these have played a lot more games than Westwood how are they still in the team as they have been awful.

The point I’m making is this, you don’t have to suffer bullies, they need to be dealt with. You cannot allow the bad behaviour of one person to infect the team. big moz
He's going to be busy tonight, so easier to gauge where he is. Agree with others that he's still likely to be the best we have even if slowly declining. Definite issues coming out to attackers breaking through but his gob a great deterrent to teammates defending too deep & not concentrating. Sadly envisage 1-0 defeat tonight but hope to be wrong. In terms of dealing with that.. I would say the only way to beat it is for them to prove it on the pitch and show that they’re better players than he is and deserve their place, and that he’s talking BS. Unfortunately neither Dawson or Wildsmith have really done that over the last year

He keeps hold of the ball until the opposition have had time to get back into position then just kicks it anywhere, usually to the opposition or out of play.

Jim
For some reason Westwood doesn’t have the 100% heartfelt support of the fan base he once had. I felt that he needed to keep a clean sheet on Saturday to justify his selection and keep his critics at bay. He didn’t and to compound matters his mistake led to Preston’s match winning goal. He needs a faultless performance more than ever tonight but whether he produces it or not, TP has backed himself into a bit of a corner by recalling him straight away and will probably have to stick with him come what may. One thing is for certain there is some real work that needs to be done with regards the goalkeeping department next summer.
Errol Flashman
He's bound to get a bit sharper with game time. He hasn't been doing owt all year. Gotta say, I do feel a little bit for Wildsmith, whether he's good enough or not, coz he's trained and been patient all season and then when he gets a chance when Dawsons eventually dripped he gets two clean sheets and then bombed to the bench again. Mind, at least he's on the bench. Woulda been easy for him to have got lip on and said he'd got a knock or sumat.. Just a bloke. Being dragged along in a world that moves too quick for it's own good. Agreed with this, although I think it will be as early as January that there'll be a new keeper coming in unless Westwood can produce sufficient form. If Westwood's playing well enough then I suppose we'll delay it until the summer when Westwood's out of contract. The bottom line is that for over 18 months now none of the keepers have played well enough for long enough to justify them being number one. Westwood hasnt been a good goalkeeper for 3/4 years Complete waste of time, money The worse thing pulis could do is renewing Westwoods contract Westwood has also had a right bashing for it - even his manager mentioned it in the interview So what’s your point? In the same time Dawson has played 62 games kept 16 clean sheets and conceded 92 goals, a clean sheet about 1 in every 4 games and concedes on average 1.5 goals a game. Also in that time Wildsmith has played just 38 games, kept 11 clean sheets and conceded 1 more than Westwood in 16 games less in 55 goals, a clean sheet in every 3.5 games and concedes an average of 1.45 goals a game. Based on the last 4 season Westwood has the better record out of our 3 keepers. It would not be fair to then go any further back as Westwood was the best Keeper in the league in the 3 previous seasons.

Good facts To anyone who doesn’t have a dislike for Westwood it’s clear he’s easily the best keeper He’s just a bit unreliable.

Westwood has played 1 game in a year due to a muppet of manager in charge, give him a run in the team and he and the team will improve. He adds leadership to a quiet back line and the defense feel better with him behind them. We have a few very tough games against good teams, but the likes of Bannan and Lees, Reach as senior players need to stop leaving it for everyone else to do and stand up and be counted all 3 have been awful so far this season but I don't hear many calling for them to be dropped. Pressman was good years ago shall we bring him back ? But if you look at the stats.. 2018-19 season his record was equally as good as 2014-17, so he’s not been on the decline for 4 years. When Bruce offered him the new contract he was right up there still with any other keeper in this league. Now at his age it’s possible that since May 2019 he’s deteriorated too much and is no longer good enough. But everyone saying this sort of thing is basing it on a half a dozen game spell before he got dropped last season. There were no signs of permanent deterioration prior to that. Hard to tell whether that was a drop in form or something more because we haven’t seen anything more of him since until Saturday. Obviously a mistake in the first game back isn’t a good start for him but the other two have proved they aren’t good enough. We have to judge how he does between now and January.. I think he’ll do ok but if he makes too many mistakes we need a new keeper
