How Do We Solve Our Goal Scoring Crisis

If only we had a striker at the club with a proven track record of scoring goals at this level....

David Nugent: 121 goals in 412 appearances*

Ross McCormack: 120 goals in 333 appearances

Billy Sharp: 114 goals in 322 appearances*

Jordan Rhodes: 108 goals in 286 appearances*

Daryl Murphy: 93 goals in 329 appearances*

Chris Martin: 93 goals in 343 appearances*

Lewis Grabban: 91 goals in 215 appearances*

Darius Henderson: 87 goals in 270 appearances

Dexter Blackstock: 84 goals in 342 appearances

Danny Graham: 82 goals in 257 appearances*

What is Jordan Rhodes record over last 5 years though?

Jordan Rhodes coming in good for Wednesday feels like waiting for a bus that never turns up.

TP hasnt really ever solved the goalscoring side of the game.  He will be organised and defensive like Monk was trying to do.

He can definitely help on set plays though - we have been awful on attacking set plays without Fletcher and Nuhiu.  We need to find 20 odd goals from set plays for rest of this season, and somehow find a goal a game from open play, and pray the defenders and goalkeepers cut out silly mistakes.

Last 3 seasons = 10 league goals at 187 minutes per goal.

I think shifting to a back 4 with a 4231/433 formation may allow more bodies in the box?

3-5-2 got a few clean sheets but it has still looked brittle at times and our wing backs haven’t been able to deliver confidently. In that formation they become integral to everything whereas 4 at the back and wide midfielders changes the dynamic a bit.

Not convinced Rhodes will make a huge difference unless we stick with the current approach of 2 up front.

Whilst a lot on that list are still scoring, Rhodes last got double figures in a single season over 5 years ago. Hes not the answer and hasn't been for some time

But, is he more of an answer in the 12 games before the Transfer Window than Paterson, Windass, Marriott and Kachunga?

Thats the only question that matters until January.

Easy, play to Jordan Rhodes strengths, balls into the box, crosses into the box.

Feed the Rhodes and he will score and Pulis knows this.

I vote for taking out the opposition S A S style. That would at least give us a possibility of scoring at least one goal. Maybe!
