I have gone from quite optimistic and excited, to thinking we're going to scrape through the group and then get knocked out.

Southgate does not fill me with confidence one bit.

We have some real attacking threat at our disposal at the moment and he's going to try setup defensive, sit back kind of attitude.

We might stand more chance of winning our last 16 tie if we do just scrape through our group.

If we win our group we play the runner up from this group in the last 16:

If we finish 2nd in the group we play the 2nd-placed team from this group:

Agreed.

The Coady and Mings thing baffles me a bit tbh.

If you lined up with those two as a pair (not in a three) you'd be worried as a mid-table PL side, let alone England in a major tournament.

Pretty sure Coady is a one time central midfielder who got converted into the central defender in a back three. He's a nice footballer, with good passing range, but I'd not want him playing in a two.

Mings is just rash for me. Don't get why he is so rated in quarters.

Ask any Villa fan and they’ll tell you Konsa is the superior defender to Mings.

If you’re going to take a Villa defender, I’d take Konsa every time.

I think that winning the group gives us that home advantage largely so it’s win win lol

True, not sure a 10K crowd at Wembley is a decisive factor when facing France, Portugal or Germany in a knockout game though. Fancy our chances more against Sweden or Poland on a neutral ground though knowing us we will finish 2nd and Spain will also finish 2nd and knock us out!

Looks like we need to finish second then!

We won't beat Portugal or France, no chance, Germany possibly but doubtful.

I more even game would be a Poland with Lewandowski ( doubt he would be intimidated by our centre halves) , or a Spain team that seem to be a bit scrappy at the moment.  Sweden and Slovakia we should get the better of.

“Clearly Jordan’s not fit - I don’t think he should be involved…

I’ve heard people say they want him around the place - for what?

Does he do card tricks? Does he have a sing song? Does he do quizzes in the evenings?”

Just a bloke. Being dragged along in a world that moves too quick for it's own good.

Thought this too.

Trouble is, finish third & we get a hard opponent in QF instead.

Have to bite the bullet & try & win 7 games regardless.

I thought capacity at Wembley was 25% for group, then increased for knockout rounds after match on 22nd?

So you'd start JWP over Bellingham and Rice?

I think I would start him over Bellingham for this tournament. And i'd certainly rather have JWP in the squad in case of injury, at the very least.

Yeah, you're right, thanks.

I guess the decision on what happens with the next phase of lockdown will dictate how many are allowed in for the knockout games.

Not happy that Ward-Prowse isn’t going. I’d like to have seen Lingard as an option too. Stupid taking a half fit Henderson. And to be honest I don’t rate Kalvin Phillips at all.

Best side from who Southgate has picked:

Pickford

Walker Maguire Stones Shaw

Rice Bellingham

Grealish Mount Foden

Kane

Kalvin Phillips is the model sideways backwards man.

GS will love him.
I just hope the flair players are allowed to express themselves a bit. Don’t play it back to Pickford from the edge of the opponent’s box ffs.

Yet Phillips is the player that allows the flair players to express themselves whilst he retains possession and wins the ball back when it’s lost by the flair players?
