Maybe one of Lawrence or Pope will get the number three gig instead. Thought Crawley would be 3 if / when Burns comes back?

He’s said he prefers three but likes opening as well. If we have Lawrence, Root, Pope, Stokes and have the option of picking Crawley to open then I wouldn’t be surprised if we went with that as Sibley and Burns might both struggle in Australia. The other options is Pope taking the gloves off Buttler to shoehorn them all in. Nice to have options.

southportdc 25,539
Do doubt these spinners though. Miles from being good enough.
Adem Poric 14,782
Leach looks ok for a couple of overs then completely loses his rhythm. Bess bowls at least one too short and one too full every over. Having a mentally healthy (and covid free) Moeen back is an absolute must going to India.
R-Sole14 2,948
I’d love a fully fit Moeen going into the Ashes. It’s 0/100 style of spin bowling for Australian conditions. Much more suited to Indian conditions though, will get spanked because of the quality of the batsmen though. *Get fûcked whoever quotes this when Moeen takes a 7 for on Day 1 at the Gabba. southportdc 25,539
But Bess is bowling 0/500 style stuff. Moeen is exceptionally average as an international spinner, but also miles better than anything else we have. Except Parkinson will ofc be in the team taking 5fers for fun by then.
Adem Poric 14,782
What the fuck happened today. Bairstow playing for his place.euns out the skipper after the two openers play woeful shots (or non-shots). At least both spinners found a rhythm today. Bowled much better. Test cricket is still the best.
southportdc 25,539
Bairstow was just annoyed Root got the attention in the first innings.
Adem Poric 14,782
Never in doubt that victory. There will be some changes for the second Test. Wood and Broad out for Anderson and Stone? Cant see them changing the batting line up. Maybe Woakes in for Curran too - depending on how both are with fitness. Curran actually bowled quite nicely with the new ball but the outfield was so lush there was no chance of reverse so he offers nothing after the first 15 overs.
Adem Poric 14,782
Also, watched a bit of Aus/India last night. Quite the capitulation after the start they had, they were smacking it everywhere in the first 45 minutes or so. Guessing the pitch is going to be a bit tricky tonight and the Indians will lose but they have certainly shown how much strength in depth they have now. On paper that team should get annihilated in Brisbane but they've kept themselves in the game.

edmontonowl 11,308
This Aus-Ind test match is enthralling. India needing 328 on the final day to win, so you'd think a draw's the most likely. It's 1 over to tea now and India need just 145 to win with 7 wickets left. It'll be a close run thing. India will be a big test for England in the next series. They've battled hard against the odd with Aus and it's been a close run thing despite players dropping left and right with injuries
edmontonowl 11,308
6 overs left. 24 runs needed to win. Aus can't cope This has been really entertaining
