I think the point DC was trying to make was that play offs or promotion is always the target, if you don't aim high there's no incentive to keep going. If you get out of the relegation zonne what do you say, 'ok lads well done you can relax now.' You keep going and try to get higher so the target is always the play offs. I doubt whether DC would sack Monk for contradicting him, that's something you have a quiet word with someone about.
