At the minute we are 2 points from 4th from bottom. Should we really just be getting a manager in to ensure we aren’t bottom 3 this season?

Honestly, I’d say yes. The way we’ve been playing this season I really think relegation is a strong possibility.

Pulis or Cook would keep us up. Would prefer the latter, but I don’t think he’s in contention. Much much prefer Pulis than Campbell, Pearson, Poyet some of the names I’ve seen.

Do people think we currently have the players to play the way Pulis plays? If he comes in and wants to play the way he always does play will he be able to do that with this squad? One worrying thing i was reading was that at Boro he played lots of players out of position, im sick of that going on here.

yes of the realistic ones Cook would be my choice. As you say I think he would keep us up but would also be someone that could be here long term, I don’t think Pulis would be. Also Cook would pull the majority of the fanbase together, again Pulis wouldn’t imo.

Bristol City and Portsmouth were his earliest days.

At West Brom he kept a struggling team up, getting short-listed for Prem Manager of the Season as a result.

Once he left they got relegated.

If Steven Billic finishes 17th he’ll be a success.

Is he Slaven's brother? 🤣

but with respect, again that’s extremes isn’t it. Nobody expects us to be playing tika taka football, but neither do they expect us to be playing hoof ball, in this day and age. I’d settle for something in between, occasionally direct when needed, but comfortable enough on the ball to maintain control over games

Only as extreme as quoting Wimbledon won the cup. My view is Pulis will provide 'in between' football, but with a higher win percentage. My point being, he can manage all the ingredients which are currently in play right now to get a better outcome. Come the time we are seeking higher quality, flare players, or mounting a promotion charge etc, then this view will probably change quickly.

That was in the 80's though

That's like 40 years ago

Most managers weren't even born when they were doing that

These days trying to grind out 1-0 wins ends up in a dull dire match and a 1-0 defeat

lol

I understand that. I am referring to the point of 'perception' as opposed to 'reality'. Had this site existed 40 years ago, I suspect everyone to a man would be denouncing Wilko's appointment....

All I am saying is it is wrong to write off Pulis based on a perception of his playing style, if in reality he starts getting results and we climb up the league. I believe we have to approach where we are in stages. I think it is impossible to appoint a manager who: wins games from the off with this squad and avoids relegation; plays a purists brand of football; develops and signs 20 players to win promotion to the PL next year. I believe Pearson could do this. Hughton could. I think the ultimate pick at present would be Eddie Howe; I dont think he would come...

That's a really interesting point
I don't actually remember him coming - was a few months before my time
What was it like then - does anyone remember him arriving?

Does Meggo want to be number 2 this time mate?

He'll know our sqaud and team.

He'll know we Havnt the players to play pullis football.

He'd be on hand to take over when pullis gets sacked if he can't get a barnstorming centre forward, long throw specialist and a big gnarly lug to play cm. lol

Actually don’t mind Pulis myself. But I know he would be unpopular amongst our fans. Which is what does put me off, I’d really like there to be a buzz about the new manager, similar to when Bruce joined.

Think it’s fair to say his football isn’t the most enjoyable but you can’t question his ability to get results. I also don’t think Pulis signs up to any job going, convincing him to come here would be a coup. But I understand the sceptics.

If we are winning games then no one will complain apart from the usual suspects who would complain if we had Jesus and his Dad in charge.

Didn't Dc say one of the reasons for getting rid of monk was the lack of attractive attacking football??

Monk is a younger version of pullis, I think there's only one manager I cn think of that plays more boring turgid eye bleeding football and that's karanka. If you want attacking football get a manager that plays that way becouse appointing pullis and expecting good football is utterly deluded.

Exactly my thoughts bud. I've said the same.

Make no mistake there were a lot of fans questioning Wilko's appointment...it only lasted a few matches as we tore into the opposition at full speed and realised teams hated playing us

Liked this but wouldn’t put Pearson in that category, he’d be a real coup for us.

Kept Leicester up in the Prem and got 8/15 wins for Watford last season.. wasn’t his fault they went down
