Question on strikers in general

issue we have is that we have a team that is completely devoid of creativity unless Bannan manages to get one of his hollywood passes on target

When you then add zero pace up front you soon start to see why crosses, own goals and penalties are going to be our only way of scoring goals.

The recruitment this summer was nothing short of negligent. A method of play was designed by the management and coaching team and then players were brought in who can't play that way. if we are going to play this way then a mobile tall central striker was required and 2 players who can play wing back. What we got was a mixture of crocks and utility players

It’s true, yeah. All I was trying to do though, was envisage whether we could salvage anything from the pieces we have. Can Monk even go and ask DC for a new striker, having signed 4 in the summer?

You say strikers don't score goals then look at our team for the last 4 seasons (and this)

2016/17 - Goals by strikers 34 - league position 4th

2017/18 - Goals by strikers 42 - league position 15th

2018/19 - Goals by strikers 38 - league position 12th

2019/20 - Goals by strikers 28 - league position 16th

2020/21 - Goals by strikers 3 (after 11 games) - league position 23rd

We have had 4 or 5 strikers every season other than this one where we have attacking midfielders in Windass, Paterson, Kachunga being forced to play out of position. Hence the 3 goals in 11 games between them and 1 of them was from Rhodes a player who does not play under Monk for whatever reason only Monk can tell us.

The 2015/16 and 2016/17 season was built on a solid defence and good contributions to the goals from Lee, Reach, Wallace etc.

This season we are woefully short of goals from midfield and up front, and if it continues Relegation is a very likely out come, from a team that has only scored more than 1 goal on 12 occasions out of 51 league games under Monk. So putting it simply if we concede a goal we probably will not win the game.

We signed 1 striker on loan from Derby Windass, Paterson and Kachunga are midfielders.

Lets put Penney in goal and call him a keeper. Or play Bannan at left back and call him a wing back.

No - strikers score goals consistently we have signed midfielders who occasionally play up front when needed.

That’s the thing, it was clear, although we have a very good midfield (when available) they really wouldn’t be contributing too many goals. With no goals from the wing backs, there was a real necessity to get goals from the strikers. How could anyone look at the strikers we brought in, thinking they were going to solve the problem.

Sorry I didn’t see your post. That’s right, they are not strikers, but not really midfield players either, in fact I don’t know what they are

Well we only brought 1 striker in who had barely scored for Derby so what did we expect.

We needed 2 or 3 bare minimum strikers bringing in with Monk not playing Rhodes the question is why was he not sent out on loan or mutually got rid of him this season. Even having 20% of his salary paid would have saved us £500k.

Yeah, a totally bizarre situation, but what can be done? I can’t see Monk going to Chansiri and saying, these 4 strikers, it turns out 3 of them aren’t strikers, and the other one sucks

I have to say I am past the point of caring. Monk has know since January when we told half the squad you won't be getting a new contract.

So he had all that period and the summer and left it until a week before the loan window shutting to bring in a proven (all be it off form and over weight) striker. The buck stops with him. He released all the other strikers and the kids, he has a £40k a week striker that he never plays but made no attempt to offload.

The Chairman is a muppet too, Monk should be gone but instead the two of the bumble along expecting fans to spending millions on over priced merchandise and flock back to the ground when Co-Vid is eased.

For me the only way we get change as a football club is stop spending anything at the club Force DC into a corner - when he sees his investment slipping down the toilet because he has allowed an under performing manager to stay long past his sell by date, he will have a choice continue to lose millions each week and probably more when we are in league 1 or bring in a competent manager who at the very least plays players in the actual position and plays a formation for the players he has.

We could have Kane, Rashford and Aguero at the club and Monk would still manage to play Paterson and Windass up front instead of them, he is too stubborn to admit he is wrong and all that will happen is we will continue to slide.
