AFC Wimbledon

Recommended Posts

Played their first match in their own new ground in their proper home of Plough Lane tonight, albeit behind closed doors. I remember counting the Wimbledon fans in the away end when they came to Hillsborough just after the move to Milton Keynes was announced around 2002/3 (there was about 30 of them, clearly an exciting match), and following the early progress of AFC Wimbledon in non-league... less than 20 years later, they’re a football league club with their own ground and are above MK Dons in the table. Pretty remarkable stuff for a group of supporters to achieve all that in a relatively short space of time.

Interestingly, Joe Palmer (once of Wednesday) is their CEO now.

IMO it just shows how much of a farce it was moving their club to Milton Keynes. I disagreed with the decision then and still can't believe they allowed it to happen.

Completely agree. Said in a previous topic about the MK Dons that had they gone about it the right way climbing the divisions it would have given them a bigger fan base than they have currently.
