Whats our ‘style/gameplan’ ?

Recommended Posts

After all this time with Monk in charge I’m still yet to see what our gameplan is. What do they work on in training?

Wing backs are basically just defending constantly, Wheres the attacking intent we saw from Harris at the start of last season?

Are we just a long ball team? No problem with that if we even attempted to do it properly but we don’t. Half hearted balls floated to Paterson. On the rare occassions he wins it, theres no-one around him for seconds which makes it all pointless.

Or are we just hoping Bannan can create a little bit of magic, a long diagonal perhaps, That seems a favourite.

Set pieces. We can’t work on them surely. Throw ins are laughable, I've seen better movement at u7s on a Sunday morning. Its been very noticeable this season that we cant take a throw in, its weird. Corners, well we’ve seen what Bannan can deliver. Give the big lads something to go at. So basic

Plan is to lose or at best, draw, at home and away.

The worst thing about the last two games (maybe even four) is that we just don't look like doing anything and don't do anything in the meantime.

All I can remember from last night are their goals. Don't recall us doing anything at any point.

Playing a 5-3-2 when we don’t have the players to do it

Players playing in a back 3 that aren’t suited to it

Full backs playing at centre half

Midfielders playing at wing back

Bannan playing way too deep as usual

Midfielders playing up front

Strikers changing every single game

Awful

The players don’t seem to know their role in the team at all.
Playing as individuals with no leadership, communication or creativity.

Many playing out of their ‘natural’ positions.
What game plan ? Is it hoof ball and hope for the best ? 🤪
Desperate times 🤔

it is literally hope for the best, long ball and see what happens. Laughable

The way we persist with the long passes when they haven't worked at all is a total embarrassment.

Harris is on the wrong side of the pitch and seems really reluctant to do anything other than pass it back to Bannan when he gets near their box. Bannan inevitably just passes it back to halfway.

We are persisting with 2 strikers when our midfield is basically non existant. All either of them can do is run around pointlessly, waiting for a cross that never comes. At least if he started Windass he tries to drop deeper and show for the ball.

The manager keeps on saying 'individual errors' they are being forced into those errors by the system, they feel certain a goal is coming so they take players out. Then we see red cards, injuries, penalties. 3 at the back is a nice idea, but it's clear it isn't working, we need to change it.

Gameplan and tactics is a joke.

One thing I did notice before the restart after the drone is that Rotherham were running up and down the pitch and then doing fast passing drills.

We were off camera (can imagine a few sprints) then just passed around like we were in a park before doing one sprint. The effort was minimal it was disgraceful in comparison.

They then scored straight after and we proceeded to get an injury.

Poor preparation clear as day. Monk is clueless. No wonder we have so many injuries if we do pathetic warm ups followed by intensity of a full match.

We currently play long-ball - only 4 teams in the division hit more long balls per game than us:

Of those 4 teams,

Bristol aim for the physical target of Chris Martin

Stoke aim for the physical target of Steven Fletcher

Cardiff aim for one of the tallest target men around in Kieffer Moore

Preston have two strikers significantly taller than our tallest forward

Paterson is our tallest forward and we have only just got him and he doesn't exactly seem effective in the target man role.

This style of play has resulted in us having less shots on target per game than all but one team in the division so far.

Thanks Garry but its not working
