Dawson, 7 – Assured handling with a few shots straight at him

Odubajo, 7 – A couple of times he game his man too much space, but

Flint, 8 – MoM, dominant in the air, loud, and played some decent balls forward to Paterson. Looks like the kind of leader we need

Van Aken, 8 – Was going to give him a 7, but extra marks for that late block at the end

Harris, 7 – Defensively strong – just needs to mix it up and play some early passes when attacking, not try and dribble all the time

Reach, 8 – Looks more comfortable wide midfield, almost scored with early doors and set up Bannan for another close one

Luongo, 7 – Another assured performance, helped set the tone in the first half

Bannan, 7 – Kept things ticking, got the better of Gardner a couple of times, calm penalty

Kachunga, 6 – Lots of running, but didn’t seem to affect the game much

Windass, 8 – His harrying and pressing up front was a handful

Paterson, 7 – lots of hussle and bustle, including tricking the ref into giving the penalty, overclubbed quite a few of the passes when we were counter-attacking

Subs

Marriott, 6 – looked bright, close to opening his account from an angle

Dele-Bashiru, N/A – Briefly on the right wing, then moved inside

Pelupessy, N/A – came on at the end

Excellent for 75 minutes, awful for the last 20. Unfortunately Birmingham created as many good chances in the last 20 as we did in the first 75. So we should count ourselves a little fortunate to get all 3 points.

Reach - credit to him. Head down and this free roaming role on the wing is much more suited to him

Windass - Livewire. Great footballing brain. Unlucky with free kick

Luongo - Usual dominant self

Van Allen - Solid with a game winning block

Van Aken is like a new signing... Paterson tied down their centre backs... Odubajo kept his head with a disciplined defensive performance... and Windass was a handful...

But my vote goes to Luongo. He's perfect for that role in front of the central defenders vacated by Sam Hutchinson. He stopped everything they threw at us in the first half and he was around supporting every attack.

I'm not Flint's biggest fan but to come in and look at ease for much of the game like that after one day is impressive. Same for Van Aken to play so well with a new partner alongside him.

Luongo played well again, Windass worked hard.

Kachunga & Harris below par.

Big 3 points, onwards and upwards.

Close between Reach, Flint and Luongo for me but in the end went for Reach. He clearly is a winger and he really shone today.. Wasn't afraid to cut in and run into spaces to get the ball or drag defenders away giving room for Harris down the left. Really caused their defence a lot of headaches & unlucky not to get a goal. Even popped up pressing or making tackles on the right side once or twice, so great work rate from him too (although that could be said about everyone today to be honest).

Great performance and another 3 points, UTO!

Luongo for me but thought the 3 usual scapegoats of Reach, JVA and Odubajo had really solid games for us. Enjoyed Windass' performance as well, so glad he's our player.

Agree with that 100% but I voted for JvA just because that block was as good as a goal. Thought Paterson put a shift in too, fluffed his lines with that 2v2 but otherwise had a good game

Luongo for me. Immense work rate and tackling.

Yup, completely with you in every respect. Gone the same way for the same reason.

Though the entire team worked hard today, Luongo worked the hardest. Tireless he was, like a dynamo, he just kept going. Impressive stuff Massimo.

I thought Luongo had a great game.

No idea what position he played

It was almost like he was an advanced centre half, dropping in between Flint and Van Aken to make the 3 when defending, then moving up when we advanced.

He was brilliant today, broke up play all over the pitch.

Fair Wednesday fans as always. Slag them off when deserved, and praise in equal measure when deserved.

Today was a praise day all round.

And to Monk today too, though his bringing on of Pelupessy for Paterson meant we couldn’t knock the ball long to be held up up front. Invited Birmingham pressure towards the end that could’ve, but didn’t, cost us 2 points. Didn’t need a five man midfield at that stage, they were knocking the ball long, over the midfield.
