darra
One of the proposals was that a minimum of two teams would be relegated from the EPL. It was pointed out on tv earlier than minimum means that more teams could be relegated in future taking the EPL down to 16 teams etc.

Guest
3 hours ago, southportdc said: When did Henry say that? FSG have said they support promotion and relegation. The reason smaller clubs want a closed PL is so they can eventually challenge the big clubs, so I'm not sure why the bigger clubs would want it. You stated that, FSG and the Glazers believe, according to the Athletic, that one reason the PL is so intense is the huge cost of relegation and so the desperation to avoid it. So their solution is basically to reduce that gap by giving us more money and giving lower-end PL teams less. By scrapping relegation the intensity would be less and some of the teams could be regarded as fodder rather than putting up such an intense fight. These clubs could never become challengers under project power grab as the big 6 would have all voting rights and shut down any chances of them becoming a threat. latemodelchild
Glad this has seemingly been rejected. I await the next poo sandwich served up, probably with a little more sugar than the last, maybe some interesting bread. Same filling though. 1
cardiffowl06
Elements of big picture could be implemented regardless of support package. Some things in football can change, but not at the expense of handing power to the very top clubs.
room0035
So Premier league vote to give no monetary help to any clubs and offer loans to clubs weeks away from going bust. It is great to see nothing has changed 99% of income between 20 mainly foreign owned soccer teams. 1% split between 72 teams who on the whole have lost at least 50% of their turnover because of no fans. The Championship, league 1 and league 2 teams should simple say no more. Don't play another game until a minimum of £250m is paid. The powers that be, the EPL, FA and government would poo themselves if the EFL board and chairman actually grew backbones. But instead they will stay under the boot of the EPL. In the meantime they will cherry pick the best young players and what talent is left in the EFL at knockdown price. 14th October 2020, the day the final nail in the coffin of English football was hammered home. I disagree: if the EFL tried that, the PL would be delighted.
Utah Owl
The sooner the so called big 6 ******** off to their European Super League and leave the rest of British football to get on with it the better.
Guest Bulgaria
So Liverpool and Man Utd instigated and proposed the idea, but now all 20 clubs in the prem have unanimously rejected it? I don't get that at all, I smell something fishy.
Plonk
To be fair any team in the prem that could potentially be relegated would be mad to vote for this. Whereas now they have a massive financial cushion and an excellent chance of returning this leaves them financially exposed and dropped back into a more competitive championship with a reduced chance of promotion

I dont think EFL clubs are in a strong enough position to do that. Premier League clubs would say ok than done play and don't have the £250m, what then. Some clubs would go bust before Christmas. Guest Ferkorf
Let the prem have 18 teams but we want 3 relegated each season and those who finish fourth from bottom go into the play offs with 4th, 5th, 6th position of the championship, with relegation/promotion from all other leagues following suit. Make championship, league 1, 2 all 20 teams per league and add in league 3 or make a league between championship and Premiership... maybe the 'Terry Henfleet league of Lumping' Keep the League cup open for all teams that arent in europe that season or maybe even just the efl.... with the winner getting a spot in the europa league qualifiers. Bin off the fa trophy ONLY if teams vote on whether they want to continue it or not...

No - but most of the clubs are being run on fumes at the moment the EFL needs £250m just to balance the books from the costs they have incurred to date and the EPL has offered £50m in loans - so money that will have to be paid back. If the clubs simply said no more, the hope is everyone would be notified of what a scum the Premier league has become and maybe some bad publicity worldwide would be the kick up the arse they need to do the right thing and make sure clubs don't go bust. If the EPL star losing money they will soon change their tune. The EFL today need to left Championship clubs know P&S is off the table and owners can put as much money as they want into the club to stave off this disaster waiting to happen. DC will then be able to show us all the money he wanted to invest but was unable to?
owlinexile
My ideal blueprint of what I want football to be is basically the exact opposite of what it has become. 1) Scrap the Premiership. One organisation for ALL league clubs, all of which have an equal say. 2) ALL TV rights negotiated by this organisation, and shared equally between all league clubs by division, regardless of where they finished and how much they have been on tv. There should be much less live televised football in general, the emphasis should be on ticket money and the local fans rather than trying to flog the product overseas. 3) Salary caps for everyone. If you want to pay an agent, it comes out of YOUR salary. 4) MUCH less European football. The Champions League to go back to a cup structure for champions only. Scrap the Europa League or whatever they call it these days and reintroduce a Cup Winners Cup. European football should be a reward for success and a novelty for the fans, not the bread and butter of football. 5) Something done about youth football to encourage clubs to develop their own players and prevent a few clubs from hoovering up every promising youngster in the country and beyond. 6) Football clubs should be football clubs, with local fan ownership. They should not be an attractive investment for speculators looking to make a bit of cash, or tools for dodgy foreign oligarchs to buy respectability in the West or launder their money through. 7) All domestic league matches should be at 3pm on a bloody Saturday afternoon. 1
