fudge27
I see Ozil has offered to pay the wages for the mascot Arsenal made redundant. Fair play to him, especially with his current situation, good to see not everyone's a ball sniffer involved at the top level

I presume he got abuse beforehand too - encouraging him (shouting at him) to do it.

sMacLean
Why would a club like Arsenal give themselves such bad PR and optics over a mascot.

THIS x 1000000000000000 On transfer deadline day, when they're throwing tens of millions of pounds around and offering wages that to players for 1 week that would likely pay for the mascot until the bloke dies and beyond. It's absolutely baffling. Just not bothered...

Wages rise slightly every year until he retires 40 years later on £20,000 a year. Cant' be bothered to do the exact maths but he won't have earned £350,000 in his entire working life. And he will have worked 40 hours a week, maybe more, and paid his own gym fees !
0wl18
The mascot doesn’t have a role in todays game until the stadium re-opens. He also doubles up as the match day PR man, why should Arsenal pay him for a job he’s not required for? From what I can understand, he’s been made aware his job isn’t required at the moment but, when he is required, his job is still there. Ozil has offered 0.2% of his annual salary to keep him employed. If he’d have done so without involving the press, fair play. He’s done it as a dig. Well they are still paying Ozil £350,000 a week and it doesn't look like he is required to do his job at the moment either! Given this guy has probably worked for them for a very average wage comparably for many years, surely they could have kept him on for a few months until fans are back in the stadium. With a bit of training he could probably do some online stuff for the younger fans at the moment as well, but no, best to bin him off for a while. Did they stop paying players when none of them were required to do their job for 3 months of lock down?

So Ozil who's paying 0.2% out of his own pocket gets a dig, but the club are correct to do it, when it would presumably be 0.001% of their overall wage bill? Just not bothered...
