@owlstalk
Steve Parish, the Crystal Palace chairman, spelt out a common view among top-flight clubs in a column in The Sunday Times, saying: “Not one company in any other industry, to my knowledge, is being asked to bail out its competitors. The supermarkets aren’t instructed to help the corner shops. Premier League clubs, while they may have some wealthy shareholders, are not awash with cash.” https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/premier-league-offering-grant-of-less-than-50m-to-bail-out-efl-clubs-p8l063hs8?shareToken=9d9840b8f8b7614e5e89be9d445a2f61 Owlstalk Shop
Popular Post Chriss
Imagine if you scrapped parachute payments, left clubs in the higher tier to manage their own finances and have a pot of money left over to help struggling clubs/contribute to the growth of the lower leagues. What a weird idea. 20

Popular Post tomhollywood
But they'll all take parachute payments from the prem when they come down so they can be a big fish and blow the rest of us out of the water. Rotten to the core football in this country.
Guest Bulgaria
Be interesting to see how the help would be distributed, and to whom. Just because the term " lower league clubs" seems nice and cute, it doesn't mean they are not owned by unscrupulous owners who would just trouser the cash. @owlstalk
We should accept their offer of a MASSIVE loan, refuse to pay it back, then get promoted and see what happens 1 2 Owlstalk Shop

Bang on To me that highlights that your opinion of The Premier League, FFP, bailouts, fairness in football, helping out clubs in the lower leagues etc etc changes depending on whether you are IN the Premier League How many of us would be crying out for Chansiri and others to help out Middlesborough and Barnsley if WE were in the Premier League? Success changes opinion 4 Owlstalk Shop

If you saw your neighbors house being broke into would you call the police?. Or if the house was on fire would you call the Fire service?. mcmigo
Easy way round this so it isnt a bail out in explicit terms. Use the finance bill to add in a windfall tax on the TV money being paid to the Premier League. Then at the same time eliminate employers NIC, VAT and any other business taxes on rest of football clubs Govt also provides interest free loans to clubs outside PL, repayment trigger when football clubs return to 85% of 2018/29 turnover.

Haven't they improved grounds? Improved the matchday experience? Massively improved fan violence? Eradicated racist chants to a large degree? Brought in some of the best players that the world has ever seen? Given fans the excitement of buying expensive players? Improved the skill and ability of players? Racked up the entertainment level? vulva
Football has missed a huge opportunity with Covid. They had a chance to reconnect the game with real world. They’ve missed that opportunity and will pay for it for generations. I’m convinced people have, and will continue to walk away from the game. Turkeys have voted for Christmas here.
