And 6 other managers who didn't have faith in him?

I'm not saying a manager can never be wrong and we shouldn't challenge them, but that's 7 managers who have all come to the same conclusion about Rhodes, who will have seen him every day in training.

If you look back at my comments re Rhodes, They've been constant throughout. lol

If Rhodes is supposedly such a tremendous finisher with all this potential waiting to explode, why have eight forwards he's been at the club with had a better strike rate than him (although Winnall might have slipped back below him slightly towards the end of last season)? Not one or two, but EIGHT ! That includes Atdhe Nuhiu who some describe as a "donkey" or "pub player" and Fernando Forestieri, Marco Matias and Josh Windass who haven't even been full time strikers. How come they have taken the same paucity of supply and consistently made more of it?

Is it no more than a coincidence that following an initial underwhelming run in the team after he arrived that he has been a last ditch afterthought for every management team here since? And before that he had a similar status with a somewhat goal shy Middlesbrough team; starting an average of less than one game per month he was there. His loan at Norwich, probably his best spell since October 2015, wasn't an unqualified success. He started their first 6 games, scoring in 2 defeats as they stuttered out of the gate with just 5 points and finding themselves 17th; a single point above the relegation zone. Some might suggest Rhodes was only dumped because Teemu Pukki was lighting it up, but he only had 2 goals at that point as well. After that he was basically a fixture on the bench (only 3 more league starts) and Norwich stormed to promotion with 94 points and 93 goals, of which he got 6. Even his otherwise prolific time at Blackburn ended with a whimper (17+1 appearances, 4 goals).

It's perfectly clear any half decent offer would have seen him offloaded. He's been regularly out of the team at a club in desperate financial straits. Yet so far as we know, we had one semi-serious enquiry from a club who expected us to give him away for nothing. What are some of you seeing that literally no one else is? Maybe he still has that eye for goal if fairly easy chances like that one at Cardiff are piled up for him? But we are not good enough to do that, have little evidence he would make it worthwhile even if we were and certainly can't afford his lack of contribution in other aspects of the game when better options exist.

That's his last seven managers who didn't have enough faith or patience in Rhodes to give him extended runs in their teams.

So despite people continually making excuses for him, maybe the truth is that Rhodes just isn't good enough and has been a busted flush for the last 4 years living off his reputation from half a career ago?

I don't expect him to come good in terms of banging in 20 goals plus this season but the fact is the best we have played this season is when he has been on the pitch. He is out only striker and plays the position better than the others we have.

V Walsall - useless until he came on and gave us proper shape in attack

V Cardiff - scored and we won the game when he was on the pitch

V Watford - we played pretty well first half, he went off 2nd half, we were absolutely toothless.

V Brsitol City - failed to score with him on the bench - given 5 minute to rescue the game

V QPR - didn;t feature, abject first half, decent for about 20 minutes second half.

Why was he dropped when it was working? It hasn't worked without him.

Monk's never played him consistently, but the few times he's had more than one outing he's scored. He got bombed out the team very shortly after the hattrick last year and was barely seen again.

Bruce never had Rhodes as an option, he was away at Norwich the entire time Bruce was here.

Bullen. What? Still repect Bully, but he's not a football manager.

Farke was playing 1 striker and had head and shoulders the best striker in the league in Pukki. He still used Rhdoes regularly and Rhodes scored goals that helped them get promoted.

Luhukay. Found Adthe and Joao in the undroppable form of their lives and then shipped Rhodes out to Norwich barely having played him, I assume thinking that Joao and Nuhiu would keep scoring as they had been.

Carlos played Rhodes up front as a 'big man', with Winnall supposed to play off him. So yes.. Carlos was just plain wrong.

Karanka. Wasn't that he didnt' rate Rhodes.. he just had f'ing Negredo is the side.. double figures of goals for Spain.

So who were you right about? Carlos who thought Rhodes was a target man. and Monk.. who just seems to freeze players out at random. 👍

Anyone who cannot see that Rhodes has lost his pace into the box to get onto crosses are deluded. Still good in the box, but getting there in time is the problem.

So the predictable seems to have happened.

Rhodes started the opening match, onyl got an hour, but scored.
Started the 2nd, again just got an hour and this time didn't.

And now seems to have just been frozen out.

That's the "run of games" he gets.. yet again.

I thougth he and Windass looked decent up top together. Something that might have grown given matches together..

Not going to be tho, especially with Paterson coming in.

Monk just doesn't want Rhodes. There seems no other conclusion to make. And so it's into the freezer for him.

I'm sure some will look back at the failure of his time with us and blame the player, but I'm really not sure what those people want Rhodes to do. Every striker needs confidence and games. Rhodes gets the odd 10 minutes here and there and is expected to just magically find the groove. That's not how it works for any striker.

What a sad missed opportunity.

Cause hes poo

Why should he? The bloke has scored 33 goals in 5 years. As for getting a run (one of the most popular excuses of the devoted) he had one just after we splashed £8m on him. And that was when we were actually one of the best teams in the division. From memory, he played in the next 21 games; starting 16 of them, and scored... THREE.

They started the season with two up front and it didn't work. Norwich had 5 points after 6 games and the front pairing had 2 goals each (Rhodes' both came in defeats). They made the change after that and our record signing started only 3 more league games the rest of the way and contributed a whopping 4 more goals for a team that managed 93 in total and claimed automatic promotion with only 11 points to spare.

Oh, and either side of that miracle at the City Ground, Rhodes is currently on a run of 18+12 appearances for us and TWO goals. But evidently his four yard toe poke at Cardiff is like a vision of the Virgin Mary appearing to the faithful.

Saying we played better with him on the field is just clutching at straws at its finest

Your memories are deceiving you lot. Have some pride man lol

Because the exact same thing will happen when he’s back on the field again

4 years. Do some of you ever, ever learn?

Last four managers haven’t rated him enough to give him a run of games though have they.

I think we have to accept he’s not the player he once was.

Three of our last four managers have been bobbins, only one with any credibility was Bruce and Rhodes was on loan at Norwich his entire time here.

If our search for a striker was rumoured to include someone with statistics like those below, how excited would you be that a goals avalanche would follow?

                  APPEARANCES  GOALS  ASSISTS

Year 1                 14+6               3             0

Year 2                19+16              7             1

Year 3                 9+10               3             0

Year 4                  2+4                1             0

TOTAL               44+36           14             1

And remember, this is what he is supposedly uniquely qualified for and cost us a record sum. Even his biggest admirers barely bother pretending he offers much in all those things that don't show up in the statistics. You reckon we have a team that can afford this return?

I wouldn't find the situation a bit weird if we had even a single other striker onbard. I could call it unfair that Rhodes is not given a chance to form a partnership with anyone even if he's the only recognized striker at the club right now. We couldn't have done much worse based on what I've heard of our attempts of scoring.

What are you talking about. Karancha and Farke both played him in the championship it was when they got to the prem he was surplus to requirements. He helped both clubs to promotion or have you conveniently missed that out for a reason?
carvahal, bullen and lukahay were absolute disaster of managers and he was on loan the entire time our only non clueless manager has been in charge. (Bruce).  The last two teams he’s played for other than us he’s helped get promoted from this league.

What an absolute load of Pony. He’s our only number 9.

karancha had enough faith to try him out in the premier league. Farke enquires after loaning him again when they were in the premier league. Whether you like him or not he has played for hopeless wednesday managers- sandwiched in between two promotions for other clubs.

harry monk won’t play him because he’s clueless. Would rather have another headless chicken number 10 running around up front than play a striker.
