McRightSide
Same as you, was ahead of it’s time Ive also enjoyed watching some of our set pieces this season Was a shame the corner on Saturday didn’t come off as look like it was going to be a good move to get Reach free for a howitzer from range
Popular Post Errol Flashman
The old dummy down the line and cut back. Sheridan/Worthington 14 1 Just a bloke. Being dragged along in a world that moves too quick for it's own good.
Ronnie Starling
Player runs over the ball going down the line and then gets a pass from free kick taker who slides it down the line. Player then gets behind the defence and crosses the ball into the box. Fortunately we messed it up in the league Cup Final as Harkes slipped and the rest is history. Was that a routine or a one off? I used to like that little side pass to Worthington who then went to down the outside to cross in, got us two or three goals. Sheridan/Worthington It is amazing how often this seemed to work back then. Must have been 4 goals using that routine in our League Cup winning run alone. Wouldn't keep getting away with it now. Too many video analysts.
StudentOwl
Not a free kick, but my favourite kick off routine is where the ball is played back to Barry Bannan who launches it for a line-out about 20 yards out from their goal line. Inspired stuff.

It was like our trademark back in the early 90s. It worked us a chance on goal 9 times out of 10. Everyone knew it was coming but the opposition just couldn't handle it. It's our best freekick routine bar none.

DJMortimer
An old one from the Wilkinson days that I've hardly seen again since. It probably will be a little confusing written down though. So let me use a picture... At the whistle, C starts his run up towards the ball as A knocks it short to B and it looks like they are trying to improve the angle for the shot around the wall to the right. Anyone charging out from the area is attracted towards the ball. But as C gets there, B plays it through A's legs and into the path of D who has a much clearer shot at goal. We did this quite a few times and I'm pretty sure we scored directly from it at least once. In the days of not being on TV often we got away with this for ages and it might be in one of the old YouTube videos somewhere, but I can't remember a specific example.
PopePiusX
I really don't know why we didn't try the little backheel to David Hirst and subsequent thronk into the corner more often, that seemed quite effective at Old Trafford.

Went unnoticed until Le Tissier did it then the press were drooling over it. (Le Tissiers not Shez')
The Night-Owl
Sheridan was the master of free kicks. The most memorable routine was the famous dummy run and down the line free kick in the early 90s, that caught Man United out in the Cup Final as they were expecting it along with the commentators it seemed. Seems like ages since we have had a real set piece specialist. Our set pieces seemed inventive and highly effective during the 90s and led to many goals but we also conceded lots from set pieces around that time too, getting caught out with headers in particular. Kopparberg
Brentford away Brunt runs up like a T-Rex and smashes it over the back of the away stand. Intelligent way to waste time and almost as good as a goal.

Ozymandias
I liked Waddle’s “I reckon I can score from here” routine in the semi. No arsing about.

I was at Luton when Shez did that - the away end was behind that goal if I remember correctly. We all went fvvcking mental when it went in. Matt Le Tissier did exactly the same thing a few weeks later on MOTD and was credited with innovating it. I was furious but when I sat and though about it, I think Frank Worthington did it before Shez - so maybe it should have been the Leicester fans that felt aggrieved (I say Leicester fans but it could have been fans of one of the other 40 clubs FW played for in his 400 year professional career).
