is this who Chris De Burgh was singing about?

Possibly. She probably went to the match to get away from him!

Chris in the living room shouts upstairs to his missus..

"Hey darling I'm just going to get the guitar out for a bit and sing a few songs..."

*sounds of footsteps running down the stairs*

*sounds of front door slamming shut*

*sounds of car tyres screeching off down the road*

*photo appears in Green Un of wife choosing to be at Hillsborough watching Wednesday vs Scunthorpe rather than be exposed to the noises from Chris' singing*

Bizarrely I pictured them having a row on the bus and her storming off down pen istone road with him chasing after her. It was obviously pay on the gate back then and cheap as chips so she just ducked through the turnstiles to escape him for the afternoon! WTF:

I was pretty young when that song came out and found him a bit creepy.

Have a little compassion mate. As per my post below she was never intending to go to the match but took refuge on the Kop in a bid to escape a creepy crooner.

Thank you for that.  I'm an American, used to fly over for matches 6 or 8 times a year, 1970-74, and my how times have changed!!  Your picture brings back memories, thank you again, THAT is Hillsborough, you have brightened our day, I raise a glass to you and your Father, he had to deal with the Kop...back then, when it was  bit more raucous than it is now!!!

The Kop was always empty at the bottom because trying to see the game through the mesh fence was pretty poor. We always stood in that vicinity but far enough back to see over the fence.

The lady in red looks so calm and demure.

i wonder if during the course of the match she turns into a screaming foul mouthed banshee, lashing out at anyone who disagrees with her and ends up being carried out by two coppers....probably not.

My Nan

Absolutely swore by her 'lucky red coat', a big old wool thing it was, she only wore it for big matches. She bought it the season we were relegated from Division One in the early 70s and wore it throughout the club's devastating slump into the old 3rd division.

I can't think of a single big game we won when she wore it. My Grandad left her at home Boxing Day 79
