Christ what a set of over reactions we’ve had today

Just to put a bit of perspective on the season so far, these minus 12 points.....in any other context these sort of things would be amortised over the whole season, not all 12 points knocked off at the start....it’s approx 0.25 points deduction per game

Whilst I tend to agree with your sentiments, it is actually  approximately 0.26087 points per game. That’s almost 4.35% higher per game than you said.

You’re right....there isn’t another 0.25....in fact there isn’t any positive 0.25...it’s 2 x minus 0.25 so it would be a 5.5 pointer

or is the other 3 points in a normal 6 pointer the other sides.....in which case that element isn’t subject to a points deduction so it would be a 5.75 pointer

Looks like being a thriller anyway

Sure as fiddlesticks ain't his first loss cocker lol

Yeah but apparently we are writing last season off because we have a fitter, hungrier, more mobile team this season, set to play at a much higher intensity.........

Perhaps you could amortise it against our usual PPG under Monk?

Where does that leave us?

It might be worth considering this Squad is relatively new and it is now Monks squad for the first time (and working with his own staff at last).
clean slate as far as I’m concerned (although he wasn’t my first choice)

I’ll be reasonable and judge him in December.

Manager loses first game......sack him

First league goals conceded.....keeper not good enough

New striker doesn’t score in his first start.....should never have been in the team

On that basis, we are on 3.25 points having played last years play off semi finalists, hot favourites to win promotion with their parachute payments and top of the league who have won all their games so far.

which puts us about 16th....mid table and 3.25 points above relegation after what, in perspective, has probability been one of our most difficult starts for years.

no doubt 2.75 points next Saturday will have folk talking of promotion by Christmas and tying Monk to a 10 year deal before City come knocking

Using your stats Q: How long does it take for a monkey to get a splinter out of its ar*e wearing boxing gloves, whilst roller skating on a tight rope blindfolded?

Two trains leave Paddington station at 12:15. Train A has 4 carriages, Train B has 5 carriages. Top speed for the main engines is 200mph. Allowing for a headwind affecting speed by 10% per carriage , how long will it take each train to reach Sheffield, a 2 hour journey with no carriages?

show your answer in .25s.

Bonus question: Will Rotherham Owls have a coach for the journey?

Great post, and I totally agree with this way of putting perspective on our current predicament.

However, there's always a joke in any comment on here. The irony: Your suggesting Amortisation as the footballing answer, to a problem which started with the club failing to follow Standard  Accounting Practice.

I'm not defending some of the reactions but they were always coming on the first league defeat.

This is a marathon not a sprint. We will lose games its just critical the players have the ability to bounce back straight away from any setbacks.

It's imperative we acquire a cutting edge to our play which has been decent overall. We run the risk of selling the manager down the river for a second season running which ultimately prolongs the discussion about his ability.

In six or seven games time we'll have an idea if we've improved our collective mentality and performance levels. Whatever happens, I don't see too much merit in getting on the backs of the team.

The owner has made his decision about how we are proceeding this season, he'll bare the brunt of my anger and frustration if he's got it wrong. If he hasn't, I'll be the first to acknowledge that.

Yep agreed. The key will be the reactions to defeats. I would be happy if we went on regular runs of WLWLWL. We are a bang average team, everyone knows that but keep chalking up wins straight after defeats fairly regularly and it shows the.mentality is there.

If we go on winless runs of 5,6 and 7 then that completely changes things.

Another striker after paterson and a couple of attacking wing backs would of course make a big difference.

I’m having a go at this conundrum , but first can you clarify one or two things.

What time of year was it, are there leaves on the track and is there any snow in the forecast ?

Just to pick up on your second point, no, the keeper isn't good enough. In the same way that a good keeper probably earned our neighbours 10/12 points over the last campaign, our keepers will probably cost us the same over this one. Add that to a 12 point deficit already and we are in trouble unless we improve that department.
