Kenwyn jones could have signed for £500,000 but Deadly dave decided against it 18 months later he signed for Sunderland for £8m

We should have signed either Scott Carson or Iain Turner both at the time very good young goalkeepers Carson went on to be an England international and is currently on the book of Manchester City, Turner it didn't work out for him and he spent most of his career in the lower division.

Ben Marshall showed for the next 5 years after we didn't sign him how good he was and was one of the reason why Rhodes scored so many goals at Blackburn.

Lopez, shared the role with hutch in the first season of Carlos and would be head and shoulders above anything we have now.

Venancio - he was solid and very good at marshalling and helping the youth around him to improve, would have save the JVA money and a few quid we have wasted since add to that at mid20's now would probably be worth a few quid too.

There are other but these are the ones tat spring to mind.

Who is this Deadly Dave who could have signed Kenwyn Jones for 500k?

Dave Richards left in 2000

Kenwynne Jones came on loan Dec 2004 for about 6 weeks.

Dave Jones didn't manage our club until March 2012.

I'm intrigued......

Facts aren’t welcome on here.

Speculation, hypocrisy and claims of inside knowledge are the order of the day.

Slusarski was nothing special, although he did score a vital goal in that six pointer win at Leicester (whatever happened to them after they got relegated?!)

Batth would have been a very good permanent signing but it wasn't to be.

I’d have gone other way round. Slusarski had some talent which at the time we were severely lacking, if he had found a home here he could have been good.

2 years of Danny batth and couldn’t work out what footed he was. Good defender but nowhere near good enough on the ball.

Have you ever heard of a guy who run Casinos who as well as being Chairman at Chessy was also Chairman of us.

I am going to assume you are not a teenager yet if you don't remember than awful period in our clubs history.

We did buy Antonio, but later let him go for a stupidly low fee. Hector was way out of our price range, as is Murphy probably.

If only Everton had let us have Barkley on a free...

Antonio's fee wasn't stupidly low at the time - this was before he'd played in the Prem, let along been called up for England. The general consensus on here was that the cash we got for him (a but under £2m?) was about what he was worth.

Not that I'm in the habit of sticking up for 'him', but my memory is that we did try to get him back (the notorious £750k that we just couldn't give away at that time) but Southampton wanted him to play at a higher level and he ended up going to Stoke instead in the division above.

Barkley struggled in a totally bobbar team. Didn’t is loan coincide with the end of Jones’ reign and a eight or so match run of defeats?
