Excellent OP as always. Very tough game today against imo one of the best teams in the league. A draw would be a good result imo. 2v2.

Things That Watford is famous for.

 

1. Maureen Lipman started her acting career at the Watford Palace in 1967, though she was actually from Hull. Her main claim to fame was in her role as “Beattie” in the BT adverts way back in the day. You may recall her world famous line “Oh, you got an ology”

2. Despite working with the likes of music heavyweights Emeli Sande, Cheryl Cole, Lily Allen and Sam Smith, Naughty Boy still lives in West Watford with his parents. He is still paying £20 per week board. His first recording studio was in their garden shed.

3. Characters Will McKenzie and Simon Cooper better known as half of the Inbetweeners, live in Edinburgh Drive, Abbots Langley. Presumably, as a couple. Troy Deeney is their football fwend.

4. EastEnders’ Carter family may have moved to Walford, but they used to live in Watford.

5. Watford has strong links to the Fender Telecaster Bass. Barry Midford Millership requested the unique commission from EME in Queen’s Road, and the rest, as they say, is history. I have no idea what this means.

6. School scenes from movie The History Boys were filmed in Watford Grammar School for Boys and Watford Grammar School for Girls. 

7. Comedian Robin Ince was born in Chenies village where he is known as the Guvnor of Chenies.

Watford was recently referenced in television sitcom Benidorm – When Donald and Jacqueline Stewart revealed to the Dyke family, who hail from St Albans, that they are part of the Watford Swingers’ Association. I’m not sure if the Watford Swingers Association actually exists but on hearing this, Watford sounds a bit more interesting place than Rochdale.

12. Simon Le Bon, lead singer of Duran Duran, was born in Watford. He’s since moved to Blackpool and dances on the sand.

13. Mary Portas used to live in Bushey. Research tells me she was a woman David Cameron hired to report on the future of Britain’s High Streets. 

14. Former children’s laureate Michael Rosen attended Watford Grammar School for Boys in the 1960s when they were not filming The History Boys.

15. Watford has made huge contributions to the printing industry. Rotary photogravure was a technique which was first used in Watford to reproduce very fine, high quality fine art prints and then it went on to be used to produce colour magazines. All the ladies’ colour magazines, like Woman’s Weekly and Woman’s Own, were all printed in Watford, as well as most of the colour supplements for the Sunday newspapers. You should remember this next time you are reading and admiring your ladies’ magazines.

27. Kings Langley was the home of the makers of Ovaltine and the listed factory facade is now all that is left and still stands alongside the railway line among a new housing development. The Ovaltine factory itself has recently been converted into a series of flats and duplexes. This is proper history, enjoyed reading that.

You could argue it's an advantage to our team they do NOT have the fans watching at home in the stadium, not exactly been cheering them on last season so maybe they lower their shoulders without us there but rathering booing and jeering at I Ifollow

Watford also were the first club to "scientificaly" analyse the long ball game (some ex RAF old git with a clipboard, I think) and under Howard W we successfully copied it (hoof the ball up in the air and bounce it off McCullough's slippery dome for anybody to run onto and score for us). Wilkinson once told a radio reporter , when we played Watford, that the ball would have to be given an aspirin at half time. Nearest he ever got to humour, as I recall! Very taciturn man!

Are we overestimating Watford?

 

They look like a club in turmoil to me with several players wanting away/ unavailable 
They also had great difficulty breaking down a pretty average Middlesbrough defence in their first  league game last week.

 

Seems a good time to remind them what the Championship is like.

We hoofed it up more into areas of the pitch instead of aiming for a particular player, wasn't quite so basic as Watford's interpretation of the long game.   The ball did spend a lot of time in the air though.
