Macclesfield Wound Up, Will Others Follow?

Recommended Posts

Shame for Macc and their fans  as worked hard to get league status. They will reform though and carry on.

Unfortunately, think there will be other clubs following suit. Natural order of things in some  respects, as think we have too many fully professional clubs ànyway.

Absolute shame. To put it into perspective Premier League clubs earn millions and millions. Not that they are directly responsible. For all I know Macclesfield coul have been poorly run. Its the supporters who don't have a club. Many said due to Covid the spending will stop, or at least be reduced, but it doesn't seem that way.

To put it into even sharper perspective, Gareth Bale earns 600K per week.

Macclesfield wound up with debts of over £500,000 including £170,000 owed to the taxman. Given the current situation many lower league clubs must be fearful of ending up the same way. We should be grateful that DC, for all his mistakes, is still willing to put money into the club and pay the bills.

Slightly above Gareth Bale's wages for the week if the news I read this morning is to be believed.

There's so much money in football, but it's highly concentrated.  There are a million things wrong with football, all interlinked or interdependent.  To a certain degree, clubs require to make a choice about spending above their means to retain a higher measure of income, or cutting cloth to remain sustainable at a lower level.

I'm sorry to see them go.

Clubs like macclesfield should be semi-pro..you cant sustain a proffesiondl club on crowds of 2k

Founded in 1874 would suggest that you can to a certain extent. Trouble is for the teams with smaller gates and virtually no TV money they still have to pay over inflated player wages and agents fees which trickle down through the leagues driven by the ridiculous wealth in the Premier league.

I’m not sure if others will be wound up but I think others may go into administration if fans aren’t let back into stadiums any sooner than planned.

Sickening really when the rest of the football league struggle like this while having to watch Premier League clubs continue to spend stupid amounts of money and transfer fees and player wages.
