EFL green light spectators this weekend

A few will die on Owlstalk and a good few more will have loved ones who do/have then we’ll see how everyone feels....

Others will have it/have had it and some will survive with horrific long term consequences.

It’s all a big hoax though because it is in everyones interest to crash economies across the world for a hoax.

I'm sure we all know of someone who died in a road traffic accident, but we don't stop all cars, we mitigate and try to make cars and roads safer, to make road layouts better, improve crossings and visibility, change the law, increase awareness of issues.

Every part of the country is returning to a "new normal";offices, shops, pubs, factories, schools, gyms etc so in that context, there's absolutely nothing special about football that would warrant it from not entering its first stage back to normality.

If people think that schools and offices should remain closed still, so be it, I'd disagree on that but football should be consistent with the wider environment, so if other things are re-opening elsewhere, so should football.

It's the TrueFans I feel sorry for: they pay on the day for every game so as to pump as much of their hard-earned cash as possible into the club and then they get shunted to the back of the queue by all the cheapskate season ticket holders.

Context:

Government allow pilot schemes of 1000 spectators in sports (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/54094363)

Clubs that are in regions where there is a local lockdown will not be allowed to take part in the pilot.  Sheffield isn't yet in that position, but could be soon.  Attendance of games is purely voluntary, you will not be forced to go.

Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, France, Denmark, Austria, Poland and Switzerland will all be returning to spectators being allowed into sports grounds this month or next.  Belgium has a higher death ratio than the UK (800+/m, compared with 600+/m).  France has a higher infection rate (right now) than the UK.

Italy and Spain are not there yet.

Basically, this is not the EFL being all bad and nasty and stupid, this is in fact the EFL following Govt policy, which in fact mirrors that of several other European Governments.

No fair way of doing it, but someone might have held a 1 year ticket for 30 years and be behind someone in the ballot who bought a multi season ticket for the first time in January.

Personally, I can’t understand why people are desperate to get back in football grounds. Most of the games are on TV anyway, and it’s not as though the football is that good. It all smells of football just trying to get income ASAP.

A better strategy would be for them to run their business properly rather than rely on the fleecing of sheep football fans.

No worries I'm genuinely interested in hearing peoples opinions when they are based on sound reason. Thanks for taking the time to explain your thoughts.

All I can say is I hope you are right.

Even if he isnt,we simply must return to our previous way of living...we cant carry on locking down, walking about masked, unable to even visit a football match or support any other sporting event...what a society that we are now encouraged t be a Country of collective 'grass's'...Our young people unable to socialise like w e did, without 'breaking the law'

CBA to wade through ten pages but how depressing would it be with only 1000 people in the stadium and none of the concourses open?

The crowd, singing, swearing, pointing at the away fans, the beer and the pies are as much as part of the match as the actual game itself.

I'd prefer to wait for the all clear for normal service to be resumed when everyone can go back.

We are going to play better without fans.

Therefore, the 1,000 should all come from us South standers.

The players won’t know we are there.

Break them in gently.

Spot on.

Incredible that people are still plugging the insidious fear narrative, no matter how ridiculous and devoid of evidence it has become.

You think the world is flat.

I for one have 0% fear of the alleged virus threat and would be happy to sign a disclaimer accepting full responsibility for my own health and well-being as an adult capable of thinking for myself. I don’t expect the club to have to do anything on my behalf

As such please add me to the list for earliest re-admittance to my church at S6

Can I just point out that this goon ^^^ thinks the whole virus is a global conspiracy brought on by the New World Order nNo, I have no idea why Hulk Hogan is involved either) to enact further control over the global population.

Accordingly, I'm more than happy for him to run the risk of getting COVID.

So 936,000 worldwide deaths in nine months, despite the unprecedented measures, doesn't count as worthwhile evidence? I'm sure there will be those doing their best to Trump the figures into submission with stories about Auntie Mary who was included when she actually died of pneumonia, but that is hardly going to reduce the total into single digits is it? Then you have to consider the research indicating that immunity could be short-lived and that even those who recover may be suffering an unknown extent of long-term damage to numerous organs? A lot of this smacks of 'I'm alright Jack', which is all too typical of modern society.

I was intrigued by one poster however who indicated that coronavirus has a habit of slowly fading away regardless. I'm in no position to agree or disagree with that assessment but I don't recall such a suggestion even once in the mainstream media.

Nope, but a background in statistics and modelling (not that sort unfortunately...) that can spot bullshiit numbers, interpretation and hyperbole a mile off.

Go on then what's your analysis of the numbers and statistics showing countries (across the world) have had so many excess deaths, if it wasn't caused by a pandemic?

Studied a little stats too so feel free to use the big school words.

We've got the biggest ground in the EFL, so in theory having 1k socially distanced fans in should be far easier for us than most other clubs,  yet we're not part of the pilot.

Maybe we just couldn't be arsed to organise it. Or the EFL are still cross with us.

the local health authority have to be consulted and give their ok

i'd presume with Sheffield's increasing infection rates the risk was deemed to be too much
