"Different universe" lol

They've spent 6 of the last 10 years in League One, and would be in the same division as us next season if our owner wasn't a moron and got us a points deduction.

Yes but that's part of the point he is making. They aren't.

And I am not even sure that most of the clubs in league 1 have our problems at the moment, never mind those in the league above.

Think it was 1 with Boro as player manager, which as just posted, I had forgotten about. Where was the other one?

1994 and 1998, both with Middlesbrough.

FFS, take the blue tinted glasses off, this is a good appointment for them and changes the dynamic and is a statement of intent. I have no time for them but they really are in a different universe to us and may well be for many years to come.

It seems like a surprisingly good appointment for a team that has essentially just spent the last half a season drifting without direction.

However, independent football journalists have suggested they have already spent a large chunk of the income they will be getting from the PL over the next few years and the significant spending they committed to last season has hardly been a roaring success. If they get off to a good start they may well have a strong season but if they don't then the fan base will soon be pining over Wilder again and against the board of the club as a result.

As for being in a different universe - didn't McCabe proclaim that they were 'light years' ahead of us in 2007? We spent the following 3 seasons in the same division as them and by 2010 they were embarking on a relegation season that would consign them to 6 seasons in division 3. Football can be incredibly fickle in a short space of time.

I totally agree mate, and the comment about different universe is one I stand by at the moment for a few reasons. They just went and got what many see as a good manager who had got teams out of that division, not sure about our guy; they do have a some players that are half decent that they could move on, we don't; a good season for them is back into the PL, a good season for us at this point is not getting relegated again; their owner went and got Jokanovic which is a statement of intent, our owner would screw up your KFC order and forget the gravy: It appears that their guy has money, its clear ours doesn't have a pot topiss in: If their owner wanted to sell he would have people interested, ours wants to sell a fiat uno at the price of a Bentley: They have an Academy, we don't produce players  on a regular basis from our Sunday school program.

A good appointment, like Wilder was for the blunts at the time can turn all that around, lets see if we can turn it around?

Was stood with some pigs today watching my lad’s match.

To a man they called their new boss ‘Djokovic’.

Personally I doubt he can juggle a tennis career with managing them.

Djokovic actually came for a job during lockdown as a cleaner for Mrs Bonvin and myself.

I had to sack him as he refused to do the hoovering.

Novak by name and nature it seemed. I was most disappointed.

They've done well to get Jokanovic but they've made him the highest paid manager in the Championship so they better hope he gets off to a flyer otherwise he'll be laughing all the way to the bank when the inevitable happens and he's sacked

This United side has nowhere near the quality Watford and Fulham had when he got them promoted. They were far better and expected to walk the league

That's my take on it. He's on a hiding to nothing he's earning big money, if they sack him he'll get a nice amount of compensation and be back in a job in no time. All the talk this morning is about Guardiola. He's spent millions but not won the champions league so is he has great as everybody says he is? Fact is if he was sacked today he'd be in a job before the end of next week simply because he's Guardiola.

They've got probably a two season window to get back up.

If they don't, then it'll get tougher and tougher.

Looking at their squad, I think Brewster and McBurnie will get goals abd they've some solid Championship defenders.

Think the midfield needs a rethink. Lack of legs in there. Imagine Jokanovic will want a bit more mobility to play his style.

All true, but then all were pretty much true the last time they claimed to be 'light years ahead'. They were in the PL while we were on the verge of our Chaiman walking out, leaving us to be what was described as a rudderless ship as the tax man came knocking and all sorts of baseless vultures started circling. They then sacked a manager who had the club at his heart and replaced him with someone who had 2 Championship promotions on his CV.

Within 3 seasons or so we were climbing out of division 3 at their expense and they were swapping managers every season before finally finding one who worked for them half a decade later.

It looks rough right now but in football you just never know what is around the corner.

I agree pal, until they stumbled on Wilder they were a joke. My concern is that our clown isn't that lucky and there is no signal of him stepping aside at the moment or in the near future. It was good to see Blackpool get promoted today as their previous chairman seemed hell bent on destroying them. Their fans got active and protested, not sure that we have a unified fan base at this point that would do that.

Just out of interest, is Randox some sort of ‘performance enhancer’ like Viagra?

They make covid test kits.
