When you have more adverts than actual content on the page people will not go near it. So part of the appeal of the subscription is that articles are far cleaner, and if you have the app then there are no articles in the stories at all. Like I say, we're still making sure there's plenty of content available for free across our various platforms. What sort of thing are you looking for? I was presume that by paying for subscription that you would be getting a premier service, first to hear the news, longer reports, and exclusive stories etc. Fans who pay are going to be a bit miffed if they are paying for something that's free and should your subscription base grow then, The Star will quite rightly concentrate on those fans making sure that they catered for first and foremost so the free content will naturally shrink. Dom does a QnA which can be quite informative ,I haven't seen The Star doing anything similar (unless I have missed it) maybe its something who can look at, also getting after match reaction from fans could be interesting and entertaining. Really do enjoy the Stars output at the moment it all seems more Guardian like, than Sun like. Just out of interest with all of today's technology how often do get to meet the players etc? When it all can be done online you must have seen some pretty big changers in the way the newspaper industry is run, especially in these Covid times. If you are busy no worries if you don't reply.

If you only want the football and don't want to pay for anything else, we've got you covered now! Works out at about 10p a day for everything #SWFC related, all the work myself and Alex do without the ads or anything like that. Give it a think, thank you! Any support we get means a lot. ️ Good luck to you mate, I will subscribe. The internet has decimated the divide between fake news and good quality, researched journalism. My only hope is that the club recognise the need to support local journalism, providing better access and funnelling scoops in the way that they should.

Not as much. By subscribing you get the perks of less ads, of not having a limit on how many articles you can read per week, of having the app available etc. It's not about limiting what's available to everybody (as far as I know anyway). That's why we've launched this to be honest, because we know that some people only want football and aren't bothered about paying more for everything else. We have done some Q&As in the past and it's something we'll be doing more of going forward. I actually fly home to the UK tomorrow, finally, so things will start ramping up a bit then. Also, the fan reaction is something I plan on doing when supporters are back in stadiums. It's been on my list of things to do for a while. Regarding technology, while the games are ongoing we usually get one player a week who the club put forward. The industry is constantly changing, so we're just trying to make sure we cover as many bases as we can, as well as we can.
The Wall
Have you thought about a free trial to get people interested? That extra step of putting your card details in for a service is a big hurdle, irrespective of the price. Especially when previous experience of the Star website is pretty terrible. It's a tricky one, because people will rely on following you and Alex on Twitter for free. But they can only do that whilst it's viable for you guys to make a living. Some additional content like podcasts or something would be good to make people feel like they're getting something extra for their £

Guest
I think it's a decent idea from them, having a small monthly fee as I imagine a lot of people only go on the Star for Football news and don't need all the other stuff. But if I was going to be paying for it I'd be a bit annoyed the ads aren't completely gone Things like Netflix and Steam killed a lot of piracy by offering a better more convenient product, than people could get for free. I'm not sure you can make something like journalism "more convenient" but I don't think making it less convenient than the free "pirate" product is a good method. No knock on you Joe, enjoying your coverage of Wednesday.

Ads are destroying many sites by the overuse, watching YT can be so infuriating with all the low class adverts.

daveyboy66
I'm in anyway regardless...they've done a great job so far and I'm looking forward to the season. As for the ads there are a few but it's nothing like the free pages and, you can pick and choose what news you prefer and have it sent to your email. No brainer for me.

If people boycotted subscription sites and advert run sites then the companies would be forced to have a rethink of how they used the internet. Business has taken control of the internet away from the user. About time we took back control.
