Walsall - Wednesday OMDT

Recommended Posts

It's been a typically stodgy first game of the season so far against a well-organised Walsall team.

With Windass and Kachunga not yet up to speed, it makes sense to save Rhodes for next week's league game, but it's hardly surprising that we've looked toothless upfront as a result.

Derby played out a 0-0 draw with Barrow and needed penalties to progress earlier today, so although this first half has been far from inspiring, it's hardly surprising either.

Look pretty solid defensively and controlling the game however very ineffective going forward - can’t see where a goal will come from.

Harris has done okay.
Brown looks a gem - shame there’s nothing in front of him.
Hopefully Dele is a little rusty as he must have misplaced half a dozen passes.

Get Windass and Rhodes on for Dele and Reach.

Just now, Mr Farrell said:

Reach's top 5 attributes

1. Pointing.

2. Appealing for a throw in.

3. Almost getting close to a cross.

4. Running really fast for 3 seconds towards the ball.

5. Almost getting a tackle in but not quite.

It's almost like he's being asked to play completely out of position

FFS, everyone get a bloody grip! Ok, it's not exhibition football but it's the first 45 minutes of a long season. I'm not expecting us to deliver from the off and Walsall look well drilled and disciplined. Give it time and the chances will come when it opens up a bit in the second half.
