Not to burst the bubble ...

Where are you getting this from pal?

According to WhoScored.com, Borner was dribbled past 0.6 times per game on average. That ranks him as 24th in the league for CB's as most dribbled past. Notable CB's that were dribbled past more per game include Aden Flint (0.7), Shaun Hutchinson (0.8) and Michael Hector (0.9). In fact, one of the least "dribbled past" players in the entire league at 0.2 on average per game is... Liam Palmer.

Basically, not only do I disagree with your assessment that he was dribbled past more than nearly every single other CB in the league last season, but that stat alone does not indicate quality or lack thereof. Otherwise, Liam Palmer is a bit of a world-beater at this level...

I think what we can take from that is, that Liam Palmer is a much better defender than some give him credit for

Unfortunately I still can't see past the managers ineptitude being more of a factor, regardless of players/staff.

Nobody's burst MY bubble!

I'm really really happy with the new signings

Don't forget also we have a brand new coaching structure and a brand new assistant manager

The new players look up for it and seem younger and I hope they have an infinite amount of positive mental energy

Looking forward to next season

AND....

We've not finished signing players yet! More to come!

I’m looking at the whole thing as a fresh start.  Monk finally has his own backroom staff  and has been allowed a few new signings and I think there will be more.

I’m enjoying the videos the social media team are putting out, there definitely seems to be a feeling of togetherness and hopefully the team will bring this to the pitch.

The signs were there after lockdown apart from sloppy mistakes/poor concentration and bad decisions/poor finishing in the final third which hopefully the new coaching team can help iron out.

It is a division of very fine margins, keep it tight and take your chances and there is no reason we can’t do much better than some expect us to.

I know we’ve had a bit of pre season optimism, but bearing in mind we need top half form just to get fourth bottom, how many of our squad are actually good enough for that?

I’ve categorised our squad under three headings:

- Top half Champs player

- Bottom half Champs player

- League One player

It makes grim reading. Without some serious additions out wide and up front I’d be worried about staying up, even without -12

GKs

Wildsmith - Bottom half

Dawson - Bottom half

CBs

Iorfa - Top half

Dunkley - Bottom half (never played higher in his career)

Borner - Bottom half (only 4 CBs dribbled past more in Champs last season)

Lees - Bottom half

Van Aken - League 1

Urogihde - League 1

RWBs

Palmer - Top half as a defensive full back in a back 4, as a wing back bottom half

Odubajo - League 1

LWBs

Harris - Bottom half esp as a WB

Penney - League 1

CMs

Bannan - Top half

Luongo - Top half

Reach - Current form have to say bottom half unless he can have a dramatic uptake

Brown - Potentially top half of stays fit

Hunt/FDB/Shaw - League 1 for now

STs

Rhodes - League 1

Very negative assessment and completely misses how the championship works.

In past seasons clubs have been relegated that if you did same analysis of their squad pre season you would rate 90% of their squad top half or premier League standard.

Also clubs (such as utd and Huddersfield) been promoted when again pre season players would all have been seen as bottom half / league 1 standard.

I guess we all knew the state of affairs, the form table doesn’t lie. Our fate next season, was all about what Monk could do in this window. It was clear that we needed to add 5 or 6 players to the starting eleven, that were better than the options who struggled last year. If we do that, I think we’ll be OK

Surely it's what the recruitment team (which takes input from a Monk) and ultimately the chairman can do in this window?

I'm sure Monk will have made his preferences clear some time ago now, and then it's over to Chansiri to try to make the deals happen.

Hopefully he'll be able to provide the coaching team with a few more of the necessary tools before the season starts, otherwise they're on a hiding to nothing.
