Good point. I might be wrong on this but last season the blunts highest goal scorers got SIX yes SIX goals yet they finished in the top 10 of the premier league.

Thanks soley to a frugal defensive record that was only bettered by the top 3

I don’t really want to make an issue about this, as I know the circumstances were less than ideal. He wasn’t actually a one man band, as he had Bullen, Thompson and Weaver assisting him They may not have been his appointments, but help was at hand. Monk was the boss though, certainly I don’t believe the more direct style was Bullen’s doing. Anyway, as I said, it’s not really worth discussing now, it’s done

Going forward, I’d like to think that we won’t be relying on that type of approach, and we’ll discover other ways of creating goals. Monk has played decent football, at both Swansea and Leeds, so I’m optimistic.

There’s no issue. I’m also optimistic.
Numerically he wasn’t a one man band, but having people around him that he has 100% conference in can only help.

Stoke signing him and now Mikel.

Old, big wages and both not exactly in peak of fitness.

Wonder how they are fitting such players into an already ballooned squad in terms of FFP?

Selling Butland and they still get prem money I think?

Yep, get another year of hand outs left haven't they?

They are looking for £8M for Butland, crazy if they get that in the current climate, he's been chucking them in for 2 seasons.

Be like watching us of recent seasons, good on the ball at times, but slow as fizz, blowing out their arse on 80 minutes and a good few games spent in the treatment room.

I agree with this in all respects.

My only reservation with Fletcher would be if he really did pretend to be injured in that last appearance. That would be a sh*thouse thing to do.

My only reservation is that he is a disgrace, possibly the most disgraceful player in our history.

Just looked it up. McBurnie and Mousset led the way with 6 each. Lundstram and Fleck got 5. That's pretty startling given the accepted wisdom about how vital it is to have someone scoring lots of goals. And the Premier League's three leading scorers played for the teams finishing 5th, 8th and 11th.

To be fair at 91 minutes per goal Aguero would have probably been top scorer had he not got injured and Liverpool had two players in the top 6 scorers in the league, helps when you can share the load like that.

As you said you don't have to have a 20 goal per season striker to be successful but if you don't have one, you do need either a team that can contribute goals from different areas or a team that is solid defensively, preferably both - we have neither as things stand.

As disgraceful as the ones that were banned for betting offences way back when or those that refused to play having spat their dummy out over how much their peers were being paid?

Morgan Fox also refused to play in July.

Bullen & Weaver now with the under 23s though, does that mean they were allegedly seen as 'part of the problem'? rather than part of the solution? Even if blameless?

I think Bullen’s time has come. He’s been around the first team squad for 5 years+ - what have we achieved.

They're on the fast track to oblivion.  In 2 years, when the thinkpieces about the inevitable Stoke implosion come out, refer back here.

Also, no one gives a poo about Jack Butland
