Popular Post areNOTwhatTHEYseem
Nobody should be under any illusions that the appointment of Beattie will be some sort of magic bullet which will instantly sort all of our shortcomings, but if he can replicate the impact he's had on other strikers in the past, then we might just start to put our chances away with a bit more regularity, rather than having the fourth highest shots per goal ratio in the division as we did last season. There's every reason to be hopeful... Chris Wood went from scoring 4 Championship goals in 13/14, 0 in 14/15, and 13 in 15/16, to scoring 27 under Monk and Beattie in 16/17. When asked about Beattie's influence, he said: “There are tricks of the trade only strikers know about. James knows a lot of them. He’s been instrumental, on the mental side as well as the game side. The stuff I’m learning I wish I’d learned when I was 18, but it’s better than learning it when I’m 30." Similarly, Che Adams went from scoring 7 Championship goals in 16/17 and 5 in 17/18 to scoring 22 under Monk and Beattie in 18/19. On Beattie, he said: “Since James Beattie has come in he has been amazing, he has been a top, top striker and knows what to do. He is helping all the attacking players with movement, patterns of play and what to do.” Fingers crossed, eh? Now all he needs are some strikers to work his magic on... 24 1
matthefish2002
I don't think appointment of James Bettie will make or break our season. But does feel like we have a more solid looking coaching set up than end of last season. Felt like on and off the pitch we just patching things up after the restart.

Guest wilyfox
Remembering the player Beattie was and the affect he had on Wood & Jutkiewicz, I'd like us to bring in Lyndon Dykes and let JB go to work on him.

deano
The striker would still need the raw ingredients. However it has to be a positive, and gives me a a little more hope.

WalthamOwl
It’s a shame Adams scored a few towards the end of the season for Southampton because I think we would have been in for him if not.
Emilianenko
It’s a pity we don’t have any defenders on the management/ coaching staff to stop us conceding shed loads. Edited August 12, 2020 by Emilianenko 1

royalowlisback
He might help, he might not - I'm sure there are dozens of strikers who have worked with him, who haven't ended up wit the Golden Boot as well.

Well yes, but the quotes above show the influence he can have on strikers in this division, which has to be a positive, no?

Absolutely, just trying put context into it, some strikers may have shown no improvement, some may have got worse.

peggyowl
I'm sure I have seen an interview with JB on one of the sky footy things where he talks about coaching strikers and what he tries to instill in them. It was about reacting quicker and it being so natural you dont think. it was also about positioning and only taking minimal touches. It must have been good it stuck in my one brain cell. TheOwlsofDodworth
Being top of your game doesn't always mean you'll be a top coach / mentor Otherwise all the top class players would easily transition into that area after retirement. This is my opinion, but if you look it seems like the best managers don't come from the pool of the best players Think beatie will be a brilliant addition
