HMRC looking into players image rights deals and agents fees.

Recommended Posts

Just watching SSN. HMRC have increased the number of investigations by around 300% into players image rights payments. Also doubled the investigations into agents payments. Apparently, players form limited companies and the image rights money goes into them. This means they pay 19% corporation tax instead of 45% income tax.

It’s probably completely legal for players to do so, just a little bit galling.

Saw a bit more on SSN.  Seems like it could be similar to what Ronaldo did in Spain and he had to pay back €17million

I suppose it’s in the detail.

Image rights are simply based on the player.

You wouldn’t imagine you could get paid x amount of millions for the image rights of a company nobody knows the name of surely?

Absolute nonsense - perfectly legal and right for footballers to setup legal entities to manage their image rights (and all other activities) and pay the correct corporation tax on amounts rendered.
