They bought Bitcoin, while we purchased £10 scratch cards...

All the football headlines for the last month is about clubs getting punished for spending

These useless bodies would soon change their minds if chairman stopped investing and refuse to play fixtures

I'd love it if all championship teams refused to start the season

What would billy big balls EFL do then

Whilst they spent and got promoted, that’s not the only way to get promoted. You just need a manager who is good at working within a budget, who can identify players from the lower leagues with potential and will fit into how he wants to play.

Wilder is the perfect example.

With the news tonight that Wolves have been 'punished' for breaching UEFA FFP rules, I can't help but think that the only difference between us and them is a bit of nous. There are a lot of parallels between the two clubs in recent years - both gambled heavily on making the PL, both hired a Portugese manager and allowed him to bring in a bunch of his compatriots for his squad. They even nicked our song (or we nicked theirs, not sure who was first tbh).

For all the plaudits they've had since promotion, it's completely overlooked by the mainstream media that they would've been in serious trouble with FFP rules the season they went up (17/18). Their net spend was £16.5m that season, more than we spent in any one season, including Neves for £16m who captained a side in the Champions League the season before! This does not include any loan fees or wage contributions for the multitude of players they got on loan with future fees agreed, several of which are still core members of their squad (Jota, Boly and Vinagre). Unlike us they went totally for broke, and hit the jackpot as they already had a squad of PL standard by the time they went up.

Now they've sailed close to the wind again in trying to gate crash European competition. The result? They've 'agreed' with UEFA that *if* they make the CL next season they can only have a 23 man squad. Big whoop.

Essentially then the message from the footballing powers that be is you can completely disregard these 'fair play' rules provided you're smarter than the people making the rules, or can afford a better legal team (i.e. Man City). In our case then we're essentially being punished for losing the play off final, or for not pushing the boat out to a ridiculous extent and signing a bunch of ringers, forcing us to panic and cook the books when it all went pear shaped.

'Fair play' for all then, although apparently it has to be 'fairer' for some than others!

It's probably overlooked because what your suggesting is not entirely true.

Yes Wolves went for it but in that promotion season and the season prior to it, they bought some very salable players to add to their already decent group of salable players. Players that other clubs would actually pay good money.

If their gamble had failed, all the loan signings which contributed massively to the huge wage bill, would have returned to their respective clubs and to comply with P&S, they'd have to sell some top players to balance the books.

There isn't really a parallel to our club in that respect, as we signed players on huge wages on 4 year long contracts that no other club would pay decent money for, even if Chansiri agreed to sell them.

I've said it before, but it bears repeating here...

We have to be one of the thickest clubs around, don't we?

Plenty of clubs have overspent, but they did it to such an extent or timed their push so that they were almost guaranteed promotion, and thus avoided the clutches of the EFL.

We, on the other hand, overspent to build a decent team who were capable of the playoffs but nothing more, then when we realised the plan was going badly wrong, had no idea how to get out of the mess in which we'd put ourselves, leaving us with very little to show for all the trouble except for a points deduction and the loss of our stadium.

Braindead.

Once you get to the Premier League, not much else matters. They gambled, as we did, but they gambled on quality to see the job through. While, with the help of the super agent, they brought in top end Portuguese internationals, our obsession with fading Scottish players from yesteryear, saw our downfall

They went for quality over quantity, where with us, it was the other way around
