American football had it in the 90's. 

There was the now immortal line are we watching the death of Pro football as we know it len... 

 

The thing Is they came up with a workable financial constraints /salary cap that meant other than when a team won a few years consecutive it gave a really level playing field. There's a far greater range of teams that have won the superb owl in the last thirty years compared with. The league winners over here in football. 

 

League football needs a fair system allowing everyone to compete in it and with a chance...the people in charge and with money don't want it that way though I'm afraid.
