Monk and the 12 point deduction

Recommended Posts

Just had a quick look at Monks managerial record. His win percentage around 40% before coming to Wednesday,

If he can achieve that next season he would need  seven or eight draws along the way to achieve 50 points after the 12 deducted.

On the face of it that should be achievable, but when you consider his record in the last half season that looks a very different prospect. Factor in that he needs to blend in at least four or five new players that looks a very formidable prospect.

If Chansiri sticks with Monk he’s going to need more help than he’s been getting on the coaching front to get next season’s players working as a team. That coupled with some quick work by the recruitment guys.
Hold tight it’s going to be one hell of a season and it’s coming up real soon.

Monk galvanised a relatively poor Birmingham squad who had a points deduction hanging over them for most of the season and comfortably kept them up.

In his only full season there, they managed fifteen points more than the season before, and eleven more than the season just gone.

Granted, he didn't get much out of our squad post Christmas in difficult circumstances, but I'm sure he's only too aware of where we're lacking in order to put up the kind of fight his Birmingham side managed.

Hopefully the chairman hasn't screwed things up so much that the manager is unable to bring in the type of players he needs to make up the points deficit.

Not a fan of Monk but he's not the issue.

When you take 12 points off our last 5 seasons this latest one is the only one where we'd be relegated.

Make no mistake, this is a lifeline.

So the only season in the last five where a points deduction would be a promble is the one where monk was the manager.,,,,,,,,, but he’s not the problem?

We'll only really know how good Monk is after he's had a chance to bring his own players in. In January there aren't many players available and we weren't really in the market to buy anyone. So only scraping around for players on loan.

Now it seems 30% of most squads are leaving on frees and there are lots of Premier League youngsters being released. He's had a chance to assess the squad and there are lots of players out there.

There have been plenty of managers who have had an underwhelming first season and then improved from there - e.g. Norwich won the league last season after poor first season.

I have been underwhelmed but the style of football thus far, so am definitely a sceptic, but its not like he inherited a Top 6 squad.

Sounds like a follow up to the Lowest ebb book 📚

I've said it before and I'll say it again, our lowest ebb has yet to come but make no mistake Chansiri is the many to take us there, I'm waiting with complete dread at the release of our accounts because there could be an embargo coming and with a half a squad and a 12 point deficit to over turn, league 1 could be just around the corner.

Don’t agree it’s that simple - do you think Bruce’s results would have been the same without Agnew or Clemence?

He would have played the best players available because he had the respect and man management skills not to fall out with them.

that's the point, Bruce knew he needed help and made sure he could get it before he took the job

monk was either desperate for a job, so he took it without any help, or he thought he was good enough to do it without the help

either way he was wrong

40 percent equals 18 wins out of 46 games. Let's assume we have an average amount of draws at 12 and lose 16 games.

That's 52 points after the 12 point deduction. However this is just talking averages. The world doesn't work like that!
