October 5th - EFL Transfer Deadline Day Consequences?

Recommended Posts

Hard to imagine that the EFL can operate a different transfer period to the EPL so Oct 5th it seems it will be.

Although the Prem with probably start Sept 12th, EFL probably wont. Cant exist next season on TV alone. It would take a monumental switch in policy to allow crowds to gather in close proximity so there wont be any money going in to the clubs. All in all October 5th will be a ludicrous date for transfers to EFL clubs to be stopped at the current time.

What clubs would possibly sign any extra players without any money coming in? Maybe Norwich?

There is also massive uncertainty about what crowds will actually return.

Its going to be a buyers market. Hopefully the players that refused to play the last few games for their clubs will get a nasty shock trying to get a new contract elsewhere.

We need players but what is a proper wage going forward. Do we just stick with this squad and loans if we can get them?

None of this seems to be sustainable.

A number of chairmen and officials have said that there will be a lot of clubs going to the wall next season if the situation stays the same. Pallios reckoned 40-60 league clubs could go bust in the next 6-12 months.

We may well be one of the lucky ones.

The only good thing this can achieve is the EFLs hand being forced to change the FFP and P&S measures currently in place that give huge advantages to teams recently playing in the Premier league.

It should also naturally contract the salaries being paid to players and agent fees which in the short term can only be a good thing. The salary cap is clearly the only thing that can save football particularly in the Championship and below.

It would of course be better if FIFA and UEFA and all national governing bodies worldwide worked together and unanimously agreed that salaries had to be capped everywhere. It won't happen of course. If we were one of the only league structures to do it then the standard of the league would decrease immediately, players would be off in droves to the likes of China.

I honestly couldn't care and wouldn't mind football becoming less about the money again with the quality diminishing, it would be a level playing field and much cheaper to watch. Alas, I can't see anyone who is responsible for such decisions wishing to jump off the gravy train.

Good job we've got a Chairman whose not afraid to spend money.

Even when it isn't prudent.

Any fool can spend money (if you’ve got it).

I don’t see it as a ‘good job’ that so much of it gets spent badly.

This club still hasn’t recovered from the last spenathon under DC.

And you only have to look at Middlesbrough (who still haven’t recovered from the huge sums of money spent under Monk in 2017) to see that Monk isn’t the coach you want to hand a war chest to.

In fairness, Monk bought better value players at Leeds and Birmingham; both clubs not as flush with cash.

Even if FFP is temporarily lifted, it will resume at some point.

Hopefully the club have learned lessons and uses this summer to buy smart, rather than risk running up unsustainable debts, rather than risking everything on a ‘promotion or bust’ scenario that we’ve seen before.

If the Government continue to show a lack of leadership and the  media continue to peddle fear the transfer window will be the least of our problems. Your quite right, it’s totally unsustainable now and in the near future. Just wait until the annual flu season kicks in around November. Let’s hope by the end of the summer there’s more of a can do/positive attitude towards getting back up and running. Jobs knackered otherwise.

They are suppose to be extending the Oct 5 date for 2 weeks so premier league clubs can do deals with Football league clubs. No premier league to premier league deals. Also its is proposed that the loan window remains open for football league clubs long, long after that aswell.

Can't even see league's one and two starting next season if the games are behind closed doors.

Hard to see them carrying on at all when furlough comes to an end for regular staff and player's contracts are still to be honoured.

Tough times ahead.

What a scary thought. We get hit with a big points deduction and go down, and then find we are in a league unable to restart, with half of the clubs in it unlikely to finish the season.
