Applauding opposition wonder goals

Watching Big Match Revisited, those old footage shows how we've changed, I don't think I've ever clapped for a wonder goal against us ever, couple of fingers and a waving of fists but never clapping. Does it happen anywhere now?

Watched that there were some crackers in todays programme

Think now it's done more to acknowledge a wonder goal by a special player. Ronaldo's overhead kick comes to mind. Or Madrid fans clapping a wonder goal by Ronaldinho. Rather than clapping the goal you are more appreciating the player.

I have clapped the opposition from time to time, usually if we are winning at the time, makes me feel all magnanimous.

Think last time I saw it happen at Hillsborough was when Neves scored against us for Wolves, reckon everyone worked out we were seeing a real special player

Some times you just have to say "Wow, that was something special".

What I dont get is when we sing the name of an opposition player, during the game, who was good for us.

Before the game and after, yes.

The Volley from Brown for WBA a long, long time ago I can still remember. January made me shiver with every Green-Un I deliver. Bad news on the door step, I couldn't make one more step.

I have a vague memory of a Charlton player scoring a wonder goal in early 1980’s which got applause. 
 

Think it was Allan Simonsen, he had been European player of the year a few years earlier.

Whitecaps youngster Theo Bair scored the goal of the season last year in Portland

 

Their supporters in our section all applauded.  Of courses the usual hostilities resumed shortly thereafter 

 

I love the see a brilliant goal and will applaud the player whoever he plays for (except Blades, Leeds or Seattle)

I clapped that Mark Beevers own goal at Watford.

I stood up in the North stand and applauded Micheal Owen score his hat-trick goal for Liverpool against us at Hillsborough...
