Lee johnson

Recommended Posts

Surely Monk will get at least a season to show what he can do. Once he brings in his own players and just as importantly, his own staff (ludicrous situation at present), we can judge him. Personally, I don’t rate him that highly, but having appointed him, the club have to give him a chance.

Evening Alan
How much has the club made on player sales over the last couple of years and how many of those were brought up through the academy.
As I see it you have one of the best academies or at least a track record for spotting and developing 1st term players in the league. As a result you have made and re-invested money exceeding most clubs not receiving parachute payments.
Johnson has spent the money and not progressed the club any where near the levels expected of the budget used,

He also appears to be constantly changing the team around so he must have a big squad to choose from.
Personally I wouldn’t want the man anywhere near Hillsboro

Interested to hear your views

Johnson was appointed to implement the Lansdown  policy of developing younger players hopefully into Championship quality and that’s partly why Johnson signed so many players.

Yep...City do have a very decent academy and several players progressed into regular first teamers. Unfortunately the likes of Bryan, Kelly and Reid were all sold on as part of Lansdown’s ‘sustainability’ strategy - all at a very decent profit.

I think that Johnson was often too rigid in what he considered to be a Championship level player and consequently many fringe players never really got the opportunity. He took plenty of stick about it!

If a player had a poor game (and we all know it happens) they’d be in serious danger of getting left out next game and that’s largely why Johnson changed the team so often. He’d also change formation and tactics to counter the opposition instead of allowing them to worry about us way too often.

I’d be surprised if he got another job at Championship level.

In some ways he’s like Monk. Talks a good game but doesn’t deliver.

Oh dear, the thought police are out in force today.

How dare fans have a debate about whether a young, successful, English manager would be a better fit for our club than the wazzock we’ve currently got in charge.

If that's succes then I'll give it a miss thanks.

Won a few, lost a few never in play offs with biggest spend by any Bristol City manager.

Not done anything more than Monk.

I dont think that's true. Although I get your point.

We are freshening up arent we, releasing about 10 players.

All Johnson has proved is he cant take pretty poor sides and make them average. Garry Monk can easily do that.

Had we still had Bruce here would you be wanting to swap with Johnson???

I'd have Bruce back in a heartbeat.

Just a quick look at last couple of seasons outgoing transfers £10m for Reid, £6m for Bryan, £13m for Kelly, £9m for Brownhill and £20m for Webster. Approx £55m from these alone and there are several others you received undisclosed fees for. I think that is ample to have re- invested in players of his choosing to form a successful team.

The rowett that's going to get millwall to the play offs?

It's all a crapshoot isnt it.

Who's to say he wouldn't have been more Stoke than Millwall here

Would have been happy with hire tbh, but I won't cry like we missed out on Jurgen Klopp or something.

18 months is a long time in football. Has a habit of making people look silly.

Can those who feel Lee Johnson isn’t a good enough manager for this club come back and tell us again why that is?

lol

18 months? Most Sunderland fans wanted him sacked last month and then they went on this run.

Can Moore do the same? I certainly wouldn't bet on it.

Little premature.

Sunderland wanted him out at the end of last season for losing in the play offs.

They’re hardly running away with the league either. With games in hand Rotherham and Wigan could knock them out the top 2.

They played well last night and battered us, but it was hardly season or career defining.

In the long history of saddos bumping an old, historic thread, I think you've taken the award.

Congratulations.

I suppose it’s because his teams have a tendency to blow up at the business end of the season. Obviously, he’s a better manager than DM though.

Goes on long runs that are good and bad. Ultimately that is why Bristol C had a good team but never made the playoffs.

When we beat them at Hillsborough the mackems wanted Johnson’s head and DM was the hero.

He would be an excellent manager for anyone at this level though.

I was surprised when Sunderland started the season so well. Then they got tonked by Portsmouth, then us and I thought 'that's more like a Lee Johnson side'.

Now I'm surprised again after the run they've had. But I still thought they were poor last night so I'm still waiting for them to capitulate.

How can they be poor if they beat us 5-0 and missed loads of glorious chances? Well, you have to consider the quality of the opposition. They were 2nd best by some distance till they went 2-0 up and after that they could do what they wanted.
