The striker situation

I’d be happy with only signing two or three, but we need to forget about playing with two up front then

We don't seem to have a set style of play. Monk changes it round game after game. If Fletcher goes and we dont get a quality replacement it wont matter what system we play as we have no other scoring outlet.( Unless the ghost of Rhodes scoring past returns, and that seems most unlikely.)Could be a very hard season end and who knows what league next season we will be in. Maybe Monk has some jewels under his radar but his january dealings were far from inspired and have been dissapointing to say the least.

Yes, if we have anything like January’s recruitment, we’re in for a tough time

You must have been watching a diffeeebt team. That the biggest criticism of Monk he hasn’t changed it. He plays exactly the same way each game and if Fletcher is missing we struggle

The formation has changed game to game 442 , 451, 433 , it may have looked the same at the end as we have reverted to hoof ball and desperation.

That’s my entire point there is no plan b. The formation might change but the playing style or lack of it doesn’t

Think we revert to sheer desperation. The team looked totally void of cohesion and confidence. Monk needs to sort it out and quickly. (Problem is he may well be the root cause ).

He could well be but from 3rd in the table to current obscurity suggests he is not the problem

The issue with the formation is whether we are good enough at any one formation to impose ourselves on the opposition and consistently win games. All the best sides in our division are.

The answer is probably no.

So the manager has been stuck between a rock and a hard place, does he pick a consistent formation or does he tweak things to try and pick up points. Monk has had some success changing formation based on opponents weaknesses but it doesn’t help consistency.

Add injuries to key players with no decent backup and it gets even harder.

The only way you get a consistent style is to give a manager time , control and improve recruitment. Of course , it’s picking the right manager.

Wednesday need to hold their nerve and ring the necessary changes. Don't show weakness or take the easy option by handing out new contracts. We need churn.

Don’t forget that with Fletcher we were third, and catching the top two fast.

We’d taken 10 points from 4.

We’d scored 10 in 4.

Our strikers were absolutely not a problem.

Fletcher 6

Rhodes 3

Nuhiu 1

It was working really well.

Without his quality we fell off a cliff.

There are going to be a lot of players this summer who will take a pay cut in order to get a contract at a club. There is no need for us to hand out new contracts to the players we have the chance to get rid of, apart from Fletcher in my opinion. Because of the pandemic there will be a lot of cost cutting, and there will be bargains to be had.
