Very good player. Wish we had him earlier in his career.

Just watching World cup re-runs and on Holland vs Argentina in 98. Funny to see the line ups and Barry Davies saying that Jonk is preferred to Seedorf. Mad to think that we signed him that summer

We all thought the same seeing Abdi play for Watford and then sign for us. Similar outcome, if not worse.

When we seemed to collect aging pros he was one of the good ones. We had some decent players down this route, and some absolute throw too

Good

Gray

Gardner

Watson

Bad

Purse

Teale

Morrison

Sedgwick

McPhail

Olofinjana

Was sad about Sedgwick, as he wasn't particularly old when we signed him, but his legs had clearly gone. He was a cracking player for Rotherham and Preston.

If you listen to the episode of undr the cosh he did we are one of the reasons he retired, he goes on how he was shocked with how the training methods and ethos was in the club and it made him fall out of love with the game

Who was manager at the time?

I think you can add Steve Nicol to the good list

Irvine I think.

Laws signed him but it was Irvine in charge later on.

Thanks mate - my memory is totally blank when it comes to Gray

I know he played for us, but can't remember anything about his time with us at all

I remember Gray was decent when he first arrived, it was the steel city double season alongside Watson. Following season he came close to scoring at St James Park for us but I think age caught up by mid season as he was a key man for us despite his age.

I’m sure he came out afterwards and said Wednesday was attractive to players as they got good money and no real expectations

Guest Grandad

Michael Gray was absolutely brilliant on the pre-season trip to Malta

Made time to talk to Wednesday fans in all the bars, had photos with anybody who asked. Really nice bloke

Add Trond Egil Soltvedt, Daryl Powell and Robbie Mustoe to the throw list

Used to love Powell initially, then realised he was gash!!

Michael Johnson was a good un too.

I'm too young to really remember him, was about 8 or 9 when he came.

Don't forget the veteran CB Johnson we got from Derby... now he was superb for us.
