53 years and still hurts …. looking back though was a great day out  ,my first visit to London and going round soho after the match was a real eye opener for a 14 year old .

Yep totally agree, going through the west end after the game brought a smile back to my face when I saw the graffiti " Clapton is God"!

Danny Clapton was an Arsenal winger late 50s.  He suffered meningitis.

Yes, I was behind that goal at Chelsea.

Remember game better than i remember most games from this year.  We didnt play well but it was a complete miskick which fooled Springett. What is it with us and conceding last minute goals?

Taking my football cap off for a second, I imagine that was Eric, not Danny. Who knows.

Yep, the graffiti was certainly referring to Eric Clapton

Early 60's went to all away games. Probably about 64 bor 65 we were at West Ham, when their fans came to see us off on the coaches, that was the first evidence of any trouble that we'd seen. Same year at Chelsea, you could walk all the way around the ground. We were at one end, Chelsea at the other and we  couldn't believe that they came around the terrace to attack our lads. Always been "friendly" banter up until then.

I was at WHL in September 1957 to see Wednesday lose 4-2 with Charlie Pllu in goal(he was tiny). I don't remember seeing any Wednesday fans there at all. We pulled a goal back near the end and were piling on the pressure for a third at the end. I think Keith Ellis and an own goal were the Owls goal scorers.

Also I'm one of the lucky Owls who've actually seen us win at Highbury. I went with 2 Arsenal fans to see Fantham pop in the winner in August 1959 & with Catterick in charge the yo-yo days were over! The goal was greeted with almost complete silence though. A few years later when David Ford got a late equaliser I got a nasty kick in the leg when walking back to the tube station - 2 kids ran off very pleased with themselves. They'd seen my rosette!

I'm a Londoner so at that age only away games were possible for me but I used to go regularly to London First Division grounds in the 60's.

Yes I started going to away games in 64 and it was mainly banter but in the next 3 or 4 years it became all out war at some games.

Don't know when it started, but my first away match was Forest in 67 and there was plenty of feytin that day.

Mate who was 11 years older than me used to tell a story about being booted where no man should at Spurs in 64.

Ooooh, you mean in the Shelf
