It's fashionable to attack the council or say things were better in the old days.

It's also true that Sheffield has lost many amazing, beautiful buildings over the years. That's undeniable.

But I have to say the new buildings going up in Sheffield at the moment are fantastic.

They look so clean and tidy and are really well designed

I'm a fan and don't care if it makes me unfashionable to say it

Yep, i have slagged them, still will.

But on the other hand i will give credit where due.

Those look well to be honest.

Freshened things up a bit.

Yeah I think so too

Another thing is how clean Sheffield buildings look now

The older buildings all seem to have been sandblasted and are looking beautiful

Great example of this is this building at the top of Fargate which is looking great

Looking at that crane.

I assume the driver has fallen out of his cab?

Looks good, but help us out. What streets are we looking at here? What used to be on these sites?

The owls are not what they seem.

Yeah

That's just a few of the newer buildings in the city

The older ones that have been sandblasted and cleaned also look great these days

Guest The Horse

Aren't we supposed to be getting a few new skyscrapers as well with one of them being Yorkshire's tallest?

I'm probably in the minority here but I love big tall buildings.

Gives a city a sense of gravitas.

Also great to photograph from a distance.

Problem is that as the retail sector moves towards The Moor, Fargate begins to look shabby and the old market end of town looks like it's being left to rot.

The council have dithered for years as to where the heart of the city would be and what it would look like.

The Moor looks great but need a plan for the whole city centre.

The top end looks great.

The buildings there are fantastic and just need to be constantly housing great shops (I'd prefer independent shops rather than the huge names)

It's the bottom end and Fargate that really look a bit pants currently.

A major problem in town is that 4 of the major stores are really run down

John Lewis

Debenhams

M & S

Boots

Sheffield town centre could really do with these moving into new buildings
