Players who couldn't hack it at a big club like Sheffield Wednesday

Recommended Posts

There is a difference between simply not being good enough, and being good enough but overawed or lacking in commitment.

Owusu, Beswetherick, weren't good enough...…….Leon Knight was, but had a pi$$ poor attitude.

Michael Morrison and Jacques Maghoma seemed to freeze in a Wednesday shirt but carved out decent championship careers at Brum.

Leon Clarke for the main part looked a nervous wreck for us, but came back with the blunts and looked like Jurgen f***in Klinsmann.

Back in the day Larry May and Ian Cranson were highly thought of when we signed them but both looked petrified when they played.

Sounds like we played to a full house every game in his tenure. In fact out of 49 games we only had 11 over 20000 and 1 touching 30000 against Blunts. Always hate ex pros talking about the past and talking rounduns.

I don’t get this. Anyone would think it’s old Trafford. Most grounds are as big or hold as much as Hillsborough. They were basically just crap players :tango:

That’s irrelevant though.

If you go from playing in front of a couple of thousand in a stand not much bigger than your shed to a ground the size of ours with 20,000 plus, it can affect some players.

We assume players are used to playing in front of large crowds but clearly some aren’t and like us mere mortals footballers can get nervous too.

Van Aken  s**t himself in the Derby.

Not really.. Beswetherick played for Plymouth, Leon knight played for Huddersfield and qpr before joining us and Owusu played for Brentford before us.

yes we average more people at games but come on... Brentford, qpr and Plymouth dont just average 200 people. They just weren’t very good players.

Yes his short stay with Wednesday was less then impressive but was a solid player for Birmingham and other decent size Championship clubs so not sure if Wednesday were too big for him.

Not sure why he flopped at Wednesday.

Scared of Megson.

No they aren’t.....that’s just absolute rounduns

Beswethericks previous club, Plymouth, has a drowned with a capacity less than half of hours and it’s a similar stat for attendances

It’s the Wednesday way . Players play their worst football here , doesn’t matter whether they are poor or decent previously . Notable exceptions such as Carlton Palmer and Marcus Tudgay but their are far more on the opposite end of the scale. I swear the club is cursed

Sorry I disagree, it’s not as if he’s playing in front of 10 people.. he’s still playing in front of a large enough crowd to feel the pressure. He was just a crap player that wasn’t good enough to play at this level.

Owusu scored 20 odd in a couple of seasons consecutive before coming to us. Leon Knight though a bell end, also scored regularly around his time with us
