EFL End of Season Plan Leak

Recommended Posts

Dont see there being promotions and no relegations. Last thing The Premier League would want is three more teams in it.

If that is the proposal on the table like everything it will go to a premier league vote to see if they want it. And I would be surprised if got the majority it needed to be passed.

And as we know the premier league rules the roost. So in my opinion it ain't gonna happen.

If the competition is scrapped it makes sense for no teams to go up or down.

As for European qualification and we are calling the season null and void, it should be the same teams that qualified the season before, IMHO

Just scrap that next season too.

Start again the following season based on next season's results. No need of it or the risk of International travel.

Penalty shoot outs to decide the season.

Could do it all in 1 weekend.

Easy.

Elderly, vulnerable people, key workers all dying from this virus

Meanwhile tw@t5 like Jack Grealish are sneaking out to parties and Football are considering restarting just for financial gain

The whole thing makes me sick and how anyone could be happy supporting that decison is scum to me

The government need to step up and void the season cus clearly the powers of football are just thinking of themselves

The whole situation is disgusting

Bottom line is, the season hasn’t finished so should it be null and void and everyone stays where they are until next season starts. If you cancel a season with one game to go, it’s still not finished.

As said before, if the Govt health advisers deem it unsafe, any legal action will be laughed out of court.

UEFA have said if any league null and void the season, they won’t get any places in next seasons champions league or Europa.

Yes but then they changed that after the Belgium and Dutch leagues ended. They will now allow the football authorities to nominate based on a) current league position ( blades n wolves in Europe) points per games played ( blades n wolves) or previous European performance ( spurs and arsenal qualify). Now I wonder which one they will pick?

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/may/01/championship-plan-hold-play-offs-even-if-season-not-completed-promote-leeds-west-brom

"

The English Football League’s preferred contingency for promotion from the Championship if the season cannot be completed as normal would be to promote Leeds and West Brom, who are clear in first and second place, and to play the play-offs as per current positions to determine the final spot.

The play-off semi-finals would see Fulham face Preston and Brentford take on Nottingham Forest and could be played as one-off ties on neutral turf behind closed doors, rather than the usual two legs.

The Championship occupies a kind of middle position between the Premier League, which is confident of finding the ways and means to finish the season, and League One and League Two, whose best efforts may not be enough. There are growing fears for the bottom two divisions because – with no widespread broadcast market for their games – playing behind closed doors would be a massive drain on finances.

The Championship wants and intends to complete the season but as its clubs wait to be informed on how protocols for behind-closed-doors matches would work – and how difficult they could be to fulfil – it has been prudent to discuss contingencies that could offer some integrity to the final table. With the caveat that government and public health advice could yet override everything, the working theory is that if the Premier League could potentially play numerous matches, the Championship ought to be able to stage at least three to resolve its play-offs. It is unclear how it would work out the issue of relegation.

What the Championship is banking on in terms of promotion is that the Premier League is able to finish and, in doing so, resolve its relegation spots. If it could not, with the standings so tight – four points separate 15th-placed Brighton from 19th-placed Aston Villa, with Villa having a game in hand – it would be extremely difficult to determine which clubs drop down on sporting merit. That unhappy scenario would open up a raft of legal challenges, either from relegated Premier League clubs or those from the Championship denied promotion.

There would be the option of freezing relegation from the Premier League and allowing promotion from the Championship but an enlarged top-flight would bring its own problems. The leading Premier League clubs would rather, in an ideal world, shrink the division to 18 clubs.

League one is way to tight to just let the top 3 go up.

Wycombe are 8th, 3 points behind second with a game in hand.

Either you void the whole thing or you wait and play it out at a later date.

Also Bury would have been expelled from the football league for failing to fulfil fixtures in a voided unfinished season.

I've said for a while that it's not realistic to finish this season.

I dont agree about increasing league sizes, albeit temporarily. Next season is already likely to be condensed and bearing in mind international breaks, likely to be increased too to catch up, means the fixture schedule would be even more horrendous than it already is.

While harsh on those 9 teams in promotion places across the leagues, dont feel it's fair to restructure the whole of football just to suit them. IMO the fairest outcome is to void as if the season didnt happen and restart when we can safely do so for the 2020/21 season.

Games in hand is a massive problem

Also some clubs will have played all of the top teams but some haven’t, so current league position doesn’t tell the full story. Good example being Sheffield United, who were up in 5th after playing, Brighton, Bournemouth, Palace and Norwich, but still have to play Spurs, Man Utd, Leicester and Chelsea

Another option would be to effectively freeze this season and recommence all leagues and cups from their current state, as and when allowed, and bin off next season. In other words, start at Christmas, which would allow for plenty of time to get all the remaining games in, and wiggle room to allow the Euros to start a bit earlier.

Totally agree with this; cannot see the PL accepting 3 extra teams when they've been complaining for years about the number of matches they have to play. Plus to have an odd number in the PL is, I would think, a no go.
